chtown,
My roomate has a 95 talon esi auto and we put a perfomance muffler onn it the other day and now he thinks the car has less power?? Is this true or false?? He thinks it has no back pressure and has less power now?? What do u guys think??

With just a muffler, and stock exhaust piping? I doubt back pressure is his problem. This is a classic case. He probably thinks his car is slower, because the muffler didn't make it any faster. Sounds like he had his hopes up for a mod that has virtually no power gain, and his dissapointment makes him feel worse about his cars (still stock), performance.

Just out of curiosity Mr. Hippy, what exactly is a "performance" muffler?

the sound could change your feeling about acceleration, and you are opening just end of the exaust line. if you really wanna feel gain get full 3"exaust. And just one more fact, more power you have on your engine, more you are going to gain with a good exaust :rocks: . to be honest to you back pressure is crap story..... ROFL

in reply to mirkoelek backpressure on your particular vehicle (turbo) may not be a concern but the original post involves a non turbo car going overboard with exhaust size on his car might cause some power loss although i doubt just a muffler welded on did

That is what i said as well, I have full 3" on my car from o2 housing and back and yes it deffinately made a big difference! Anyways i just wanted to see if the back pressure thing would cause a loss of power?? I really didnt think so but now he can read this and find out for him self! Thanks guys!
