What is the recommended fluid to use in the 5 speed tranny, I have read a few different things about it so far. I am a bit worried because the guy I purchased it from told me he put 90w gear oil in the tranny and i have seen others say it uses 10w30 like my Isuzu trannys do. What do you guys recommend for me to fill it up with? My local auto zone has no books for the DSM and im waiting for the next shipment to pick one up.

Most tuners seem to prefer Pennzoil Synchromesh which is available at any local AutoZone for the price/performance quotient. I personally use Redline MT-90, but either of the above including other brands like Royal Purple or BG Synchroshift will work well for you.

Hope that helps,

Andy

Redline told me to get 2 quarts MTL and 1 quart MT-90 and mix all three together. Fill the transfercase then put the rest in the tranny. Hope this helps.

I used mix of Redline MT-90 & MTL of a 2:1 ratio. Best thing you can do on a budget to improve your shifting. When i bought my 90 talon, i had a hard time getting into gears and sometime would pop out and have to shift multiple times to get in gear. now its smooth except for a slight grinding during quick shifts.

MT90 all the way (both in the tranny and the x-case). Everyone has a "favorite" transmission fluid that they swear by - the only advice I can give you is that every transmission is different, and some just seem to like certain brands more than others. Pennzoil Syncromesh is inherantly thinner than Redline MTL or MT90 - most of the time, this doesn't pose any problem, but in certain "picky" transmissions, it's just too thin, and will make your transmission feel extra notchy, as it is unable to lubricate the syncros enough to keep shifting smooth.

My transmission is probably the pickiest of them all, and hates me. Adding the MT90 at least got me in its good graces enough to allow me to shift into my top three gears with some reliability, however.
