2G MPI Relay Clicking/ECU Resetting

My MPI relay is clicking frequently. Just put a new chassis harness in btw. I would replace the relay but I dont think thats the problem because my CEL is gone everytime I start the car until the relay begins clicking again. Im thinking ground/short but I dont even know where to begin.

Bench test the relay. Ohm the coils or supply the coils good power and ground (until you hear the click) and ohm the output side.

Never had one click usually like a surge / buzz with no actually cranking.

So def sounds like a ground / short, good luck!

What are you doing when its clicking? Key on? Car off? Car running? >>>

ECU has dry, or leaky caps and is ready to go which is causing the resetting ... plan on getting the ECU rebuilt.

The only times (in 16+ years of owning DSM's) that my MPI ever clicked on + off like what you're saying is when the ECU had leaking/blown caps -or- a couple other times did that with just a bad battery connection.

In fact 2 different times it completely surprised me when even though battery connections were tight and looked clean that by cleaning them solved the problem and I would have sworn it had to be the ECU.

So I'd thoroughly clean those + check voltage and THEN if still no good pull ECU + open to check caps for signs of leakage and burnt smell. After that maybe buy a cheap used MPI relay to swap out. Personally I keep a spare ECU + MPI relay just for that type of problem.

i have a 1g and it was doing the same thing i disconnected the relay and cleaned the terminals and hooked it back up havent had a problem since. try that and make sure the wires are good and the connector isnt loose

Check voltage at the relay's coil pin. If too low it will chatter (as will an intermittent ground).
