mounting punishment intercooler

So I bought a BNIB but opened Punishment Racing 2g Intercooler kit off some local here a while back and one thing I noticed: it didn''t come with the crash support bar that bolts on to the crash supports. So, in regards to mounting it, what should I do?

First get another for safety concerns would be my guess, then you can install it with some reference to your crash support.

^^ +1. A lot of people will tell you otherwise but I feel a street car NEEDS a crash bar, it's why I went with a street fmic and not a race fmic. I would start looking in junkyards for one.

The crash beam when it's un cut is to help with front end collisions IIRC 10mph and under. It also helps tie the two sides together to distribute force.

While it would be good to retain, it's basically worthless if you cut it up. That's a main reason why I removed mine all together after I cut it (a year later) realizing it's not doing much but adding a few extra pounds.

I don't want a crash support beam. if I crash my car, then I'm a retard. whatever. I just want to know how or if I can mount this intercooler without a crash support bar and the crash support posts.

well sure anything is possible how idk, safety still would seem a priorty no sense of a fmic if your in accident.

You will need the crash support posts. Just look at how the fmic is usually mounted

I don't think it's possible to hold it up without the support bar.
Unless you fab it up.
Ask StangMurdera? (I think that's his screen name) he always has a new thread regarding parted DSM's under the vendor section and ask him for the crash support posts. He should have that.
And for the support bar, call CXRacing..they are the makers of the Punishment FMIC.

Well if you're dead set on not using a crash bar, I'll sell you my beam from my punishment racing kit that I didn't use because I kept the crash bar. Pm me for squaring this away if you want it.

Not sure if you have a welder or not but you might be able to do this with just nuts and bolts.

Anyway go to Lowes or Home Depot and they should have flat steel and aluminum (usually around the nuts and bolts section). It comes in 4 and 8 foot sections in various thicknesses and widths and will look like this:

I'd get something you can bend by hand unless you have another way of bending it. Just use that stuff to make some L brackets you can bolt or weld to where your original crash support holders were.

Then test fit where you want your intercooler to sit with a piece of flat steel, placed where your crash bar use to be. This is where you may need to do some bending to get it to set at the height you want. Then weld it to your L brackets. Drill some holes to bolt to the top of your intercooler and that should be it.

Thats the best I can think of without having the brackets for the crash support.

If I hit a telephone phone pole at 50mph, that crash support beam aint gonna do crap. It's a heavy, oversized piece of plastic.

Still, not going to do much in a collision....I agree. Probably in place more for bumper support than anything else.

Definitely doable- actually I probably have enough steel scraps laying around to make this happen if you feel like stopping by sometime....or if you want me to grab a 3' piece of flat steel from my workplace, we can make something identical to the original hanging strap.
