well like it says the motor turns but wont start. and the CEL doesnt come on AT ALL.

Providing more info would be really helpful. Like a little history of the problem/engine. Did you check for spark and fuel? If you have both then check timing marks and compression if you have access to a tester.

just checked for spark and nothing so im guessing its the ecu or coil pack. how can i check coilpack?

EDIT: if its the ecu, can an ecu from an eagle talon es work for my tsi?

You have 2 coil packs, so neither give off spark? From a quick search, I found that you should be able to use the ecu to try and start the car, but I wouldn't try to run the car with it since it wouldn't be programmed to read boost and would have different maps. It could also be a faulty power transistor or wiring if it was tampered. Like I said, a little history on the car could help.

checked all for spark plug wires and nethier pack sparks. and as for history on the car i bought like this and the guy didnt know why etheir. and yes the wires to the fuel pump/ecu relay had a short red wire running from one wire to another.

If the CEL doesn't turn one during bulb test it's either burned out or there is a problem causing the ECU to not run and if that's the case the motor isn't going to start. Watching the factory boost gauge is one way to double check the CEL bulb. The gauge should move to zero when you turn the ignition on.

First check is the MPI fuse for power and then the ECU itself.

The ECU from an ES should fire up but you don't want to try driving on it. You need another turbo ECU.

Check to make sure the power transistor is plugged in correctly. It's near the coil pack on the driver side.

i know the MPI is getting power ### i took the gold cover off and when i turn the key it sparks.

ok i checked the transistor (i think) but it has three plugs and well i guess the cap broke on mine ### its just three wires with spade ends pluged into the female part. each one is a different color wire

EDIT: the colors of the wires are red, yellow and black
EDIT2: the stock boost gauge doesnt work ### i think its unhocked ### the guy put an after market boost gauge on it but is there a way to check if its plugged in?

i know the MPI is getting power ### i took the gold cover off and when i turn the key it sparks.

There are two relays inside. If you turned the key all the way to crank it would spark running the fuel pump even if the MPI side was dead. If you only turned the ket to the run position then I'd say that you do have power and it's likely the ECU is dead or in serious need of rebuilding.

I think what your describing with the three wires is the coil pack where the spark plug wires run to. The power transistor connector has 7 or 8 wires and is mounted to the drivers side of the intake manifold below the coil.

ok then the ecu is the problem ### the boost gauge doesnt move to zero it stays at -7 and the mpi relay only sparks if i try to crank the car. i have another mpi relay with the wireing just in case

ok il get an es ecu tomorrow and see if it starts and if it does then il buy one for an tsi m/t

ok i checked the caps on the ecu and nothing seems to be wrong to me it doesnt smell funny. its eprom ecu.

ok i checked the three fuses on the battery and one of them is a little brown andthe others are silver.

How did you check them? By looking?

You have to pull and measure the resistance across it. A good fuse will measure 0 ohms.
The blue one is the MPI fusable link it's a 20A one. The other two are both pink and 30A. Cars with ABS have a fourth that is yellow and 60A.

ok thats odd because i three pink 30A and thats it no blue 20A and no yellow 60A

EDIT: just checked all three and im getting 0 ohms for all

if your looking at the battery terminal its the one closes to the passenger side fender

so far nothing on this car makes sense in my opinion.

ok i found a blone 30A fuse in the fuse box near the passenger strut tower and it says it goes to H/lamp door and Volet phars
