And, that is why a C152 feels like a turd on a hot 95 degree day

LOL, cracked me up when I read that line. So true, density of air sure can alter perameters. Take a flight out of JFK and watch how fast that DC-10 can get off the ground. Then go take a trip out of Denver in even a 737 and you'll ask yourself if the pilot is even pulling back on the yoke.

i will agree.. in the morning.. my car does feel much more powerful.. it response very good too.. it just "feels' all around better, stronger.. no knock, or timing being pulled.. then later on in the day as the car is driven more and gets warmed up fully.. it doesnt feel the same.. but its just an assumption through a butt dyno feel..

Im suprised that no one has sad any thing about not running your car hard when its cold. I did that with my first DSM and replaced the turbo a few months later. Nothing like starting up the frozen DSM and flooring it around town with the extra pull. But you have to let the car warm up before you give it any boost, Just like letting it cool down after you run it hard.

this afternoon when i started up the car to head to class, another thought came to mind... the car is complying with the thermostat. how so? it's running at a higher idle to get up to the temperature determined by the thermostat.
any thoughts?

Now as we all know the cold weather contributes alot to the turbo. But i have noticed (since the change in weather in Maryland) that when i start up my car, for the first couple minutes of driving my car is Much, much faster and feels alot more powerful. If anyone know's what i'm talking about i really really want to know what i can do to make my car run like that all the time!!!!! I know it's weird but if anyone can relate thanks!!!!!!!!

okay i should quote some more people then just you, but they will get the message. the car is cold.... the engine block itself is cold.... thus the colder the better. let me guess you and everyone else hits 5K just by tapping the gas and if you have an autotrans it stays there for about 5 seconds before shifting???

yeah its just cold out... it is fun to goose it through turns when its cold, but the colder the engine the better it performs. thats why on other cars they have different thermostates to make them kick in at a much lower temp. because it lets it perform better. o and in the morning the air is alot colder.... the 02 molecules are closer to together in the cold.

all though there is fun in "morning horsepower" i wouldn't go hitting the gas like a mad man right away. "racing" the engine before it gets warmed up is never a wise thing to do because the engine is cold and the second you turn your keys..... it gets alot hotter in the chamber and through out the engine itself. so when its a idle temp and has been warmed up for awhile everything stays alive longer.

ndgsx came close-if its cold out in the morning when car is fired up-its still going to be cold out after engine is warm-unless you have no thermostat-LOL.ok cold car runs better-cold this cold that-dont matter-its the timing advance.if anyone would take the time to go look up the timing advance curve tied to the temp sensor they would see that at coldest reg. the timing(well,on the chart im looking at)is advanced an extra 14 degrees.there you have it-cold engine-extra snappy.
