Modify the stock boost gauge??

Calgary,
I'm in the process of installing a proper boost gauge, among many other things, into my car. Since the stock boost gauge is pretty much useless for reading boost, I'm curious about changing what it reads. I know that certain chips and I think DSMLink can change this, but I'm thinking I should be able just to physically wire a different signal to the guage.

Specifically I was thinking of linking the O2 sensor reading to the stock boost gauge. What I would need to know though, is what kind of signal the stock boost gauge is expecting.

I have heard of people modifying it to try and read knock but besides that its it. I heard it was not worth it plus the gauge does not read high enough to even rewire it to read accurate boost.

I just write code to make it display what I want so I've never measured the voltage range at the guage. That's what you'll have to do if you want to drive with your own hardware. I'm sure you can't just hook the output of the O2 sensor to the gauge. The O2 sensor doesn't put out enough current to drive the ECU and an SAFC much less driving the gauge directly. By the time you were done it might be cheaper to buy a blinkly light than building your own. You would however learn a lot about electronics in the process.
