General MMCd Logger giving me nothing

just bought a serial logger cable (has three prongs to plug into diagnostic port) and a serial hot link cable, i have the two plugged together adn i get no response using the MMCD logging software, it jsut says "serial: port in use (ser0307) anyone know what this means

try switching pins 2 or 3 in teh diagnostic cable or put a null modem cable between the 2 cables, you may have a cable for a laptop not a palm.

My logger stopped working the other day, and I have to reinstall the MMCd software. Dunno what happened but that fixed it.
