Someone told me the other day since I put a Mitsu 4 Layer metal HG on my car if I need to pull the head off for work that I can reuse the 4 Layer after cleaning it up. Is this true? Anyone done this?

yes the Full metal head gasket is reuseable that is what they are meant for besides the fact of being strong.

why oh why would you go from a full metal head gasket to an OEM one??? are you crazy??

I've done an awful lot of head changes, both automotive and industrial engines, and have never reused a head gasket. It's just not something I want to do twice.

but the full metal head gaskets are intended to be reused right?? thats the impression i have gotten. its like a metal exhaust manifold gasket, you can reuse them many of times. i know the 2 gaskets are different but pretty much the same concept.

Yes but there is a huge difference between a head gasket and an exhaust gasket. The head gasket has a much more important role with the motor and is also much easier to have fail then an exhaust gasket also not to mention do far more damage.

At 90+$ it's definitly an expense piece to replace, however like Leet said, its something most engine builders are not going to take a chance on, 90$ or countless hours of labor to re-do a job you just did? Its not worth it in the end.

well i guess we all have our pros and cons to stuff and everyone does it differently. do what you wish and good luck!

Thats a good point, and something I thought about. I blew my Headgasket running 30psi by mistake, my MBC spring got bent. It was on a completely stock car. I look at it this way. My car turned out fine, because the headgasket blew, it was the weak link. If it had stayed strong, internally the engine would be f*cked.

as said we all have our points and stuff to things. personally i prefer metal over OEM and reusing a headgasket is no where close to anything with a condom.
