My boys 90 AWD Eclipse is not running on all 4 cylinders. He pulled out of the driveway went down the street, heard a noise and its running on only 2 & 3. We have a few spare parts in the basement since this is his 3rd car so we tried a good coil pack. No help. Changed transistor with a like p/n'd one and no good. Can a CAS cause this too? I am getting a code 44 as well. I have tried searching and found a few posts but no real definate answer. New plugs and wires as well. ECM was modded by ECM Tuning about a month ago, I have naot taken it apart to check for capacitor leakage.

Thanks!
Chris

Code 44. That is ignition coil, ignition transistor unit. So if you put a new coil pack in it is probably your transistor. If you have dirt and oil all over it you may just need to clean it up real good along with the plug. Or maybe some of the wires have come lose, if so I would just see if I could find a plug in good shape at the junk yard. Ether way you are gonna need to test the transistor. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-electrical-wiring/229419-how-test-power-transistors.html

Caps or CAS, that's my guess. I just recently exploded my 2nd CAS on my 95 and that sounds identical to what happens except it a po340 code I believe... but yea, good ignition except 1 paired set of pistons won't work.

Thanks for all the info, We (myself and step son) did in fact relpace the CAS and it has been running fine. We also tried a transistor and it was not the problem. However tonight it is doing the same thing again. The ECM was worked over by ECM Tuning in April and when this popped up last month we checked it out to see if the capacitors were leaking/swollen. They looked good. Th odd thing is while it is running the tach shows maybe 1/2 the actual RPM. When the laptop is plugged in with ECM Tuners software the RPM's read say 800 but the tach is only seeing maybe 350 or so. I need to mention the tach is an Autometer Sport Comp Monster tach. The current gauge cluster tach is not working. My son has tapped into the ECM output to feed the tach. I will get any info needed for someone to help with this.

Thanks
Chris
