the empty “bung” I believe is a coolant line, and after looking it up it seems like it’s supposed to go the thermostat housing. But there’s already a line coming from the tstat housing going elsewhere. Got the car like this recently and I’m just noticing. Thanks for any help.

That's for the FIAV (fast idle air valve). They're commonly deleted as yours is, they seize up and cause idle surge as well as, in theory, heat the intake air tract with warm coolant. The lines are looped where they'd normally go.
