Im on a budget and in the market for a FMIC and I want the best flowing and cooling intercooler I can afford...which is about $400..I was looking on ebay at godspeed kits and punishment racing at there kits but I dont know if I would get a better flowing unit if I went with just a universal pipe kit and a bigger better core then what was offered in the kit. I was looking at Mishimito cores and they claim like 1250 cfm which is like twice as much as other I have seen claiming..Is this for real? Should I go with a complete ready to bolt on kit or would I get better performance going with the best core possible and then just a universal pipe kit? Also I have a GSX with ABS...is there a kit for my car that goes around all that ABS crap anyway? What would you do if all you had was $400 for a FMIC?

FYI- If you buy just a core, you will also need endtanks and someone to weld them on.

Anyone have a link to the VRspeed kit? Also when I was talking about just buying a core thats not what I meant, I meant just the intercooler with the endtanks already on it..There is a GodSpeed 4" thick one I read good stuff about..

I have personally seen a few Punishment racing kits. They are great quality and look amazingly easy to install.

I do believe there is a little bit of cutting involved for them but it is more of the easy to cut plastic on your front bumper. My friend used a hacksaw to do hisROFL

OK. Nice thread. I have a 1G and thinking of buying a used Mishimoto intercooler presently on a 2G. The bottom line I'm wondering is will it work for my car? Thanks.

I have the vr-speed on my 2ga gsx and i love it i have no problems at all with it. I havent gotten a chance to really test it out on a big turbo yet because i have yet to put in the pte scm 6031e. So after that goes in i guess we will see how it holds up.

I just installed the latest VRSF fmic on my 95 GSX with an evo3. $400 with the driver side discharging j pipe which you will need. I love it. It made a noticeable improvement in performance over the stock intercooler. I had to cut a small triangle out of the radiator support for the short route piping and buy two grade 8 bolts that matched the foglight mount instead of tapping them out for the included bolts.

I still don't have the bumper back on. So I can feel it after I have been driving hard. The intake side will be hot but the discharge side will be cold.

This sounds good. But I'm still asking whether or not a 2G intercooler can work on a 1G.

The 1g and 2g intercoolers are different shapes to accommodate the opening in the bumper. For example the 1g intercoolers are short (height) and long (width) while the 2g cores are tall (height) and short (width). Could it be made to work? Depends on how much work you want to do. I have never seen it done personally though.

To the OP, Punishment's kit is the one that I would get with a $400 budget, I'm actually planning on getting it in the next couple of months myself.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, my friend. This was exactly what I'm looking for. I don't want to do any crazy modifying so I'll pass on trying to make it work.
