hey guys I am having a problem with my tsi almost every time I start her, and I crank her over but than she falls flat on her face and dies. The only way i can keep her on is if i give her a little bit of gas ones i crank it. Also as well as I am driving through the town or the freeway, for example if I am cruising through 3rd gear and I see a red light and toss it into neutral, the car will die. I already replace the plugs, and I am going to be doing a compression check on her this afternoon just to see if its not a mechanical problem. What else you guys think i should look up? coil pack? wires? cas?

I think if it was your cas your car wouldnt start at all. Try cleaning it with carborator cleaner and see it that helps. Also check for spark in all the wires and make sure your plugs arent going foul fast.

Check your stepper motor, mine was doing the same stuff and thats what it was. Does it idle at all? or does it only die if you were cruising and put it in neutral?

alright i did a little bit of work on the car today here is what I got. I pull the plugs out and cyl #1 (the one nearest to the air filter) turns out to be full with carbon on the electro and the tip of the plug. The rest of the plugs have very minimum carbon on them. The plugs I am using are the BPR6EY NGK R gap at .032. I just replace these plugs like 3 days ago, for the same reason that plug # 4 was foul. We tested this by removing one wire at a time while the car is running to see if the car will shut off, and all the plugs were fine until we reach to plug #4.

I will be doing the compression check later tonight.

Edit<< It iddles a little bit rough, engine shakes like crazy but it iddles. Only problem I have is really starting it, it will crank over but ones it is turn it will die unless I give it a little gas and let it relax.

I was thinking of purchasing those, but it seems that specific plug keeps fouling. Ill get them tonight

I was using BPR6EY's in my car and switched over to BPR6ES's and didn't really notice a difference. As for the rest I'm not too sure. As simple as it sounds, are you wires on the right cylinders?

No matter what kind of plug your using they shouldnt foul up in 3 days no matter how cheap they are. Its obviously not the plugs. Im too lazy to check my haynes manual but they tell you in the back whats wrong if your plugs are fouling up too fast. Check that out.

-cloged air filter witch I order a new K&n because the one in my car is really dirty and beat up
-ignition problems
-fuel
-running rich

But i really dont know where to start :beatentodeath:

The car is stock, except from a mbc, intake, K&N, and from what I know some after market pullies. I have no tunning device
The other mods in my profile are not install yet.

Nah I have not done a boost leak, because I have no compressor. I am going to use my local gas station pump but I don't think that would cause me to keep fouling that specific plug.

i had this problem before, i changed the high tension wires and it was ok :) good luck

plus i used the NGK irdium bkr9eix they are very cold but my car seems to like them i dont know why :) correct me guys if i am wrong about these plugs cause i have been using them since 1 month now and they are ok so far ??? any ideas about these plugs

thanks

Yeah changing the wires is going to be my next option, but i guess alot of people do not have much experience with this issue

Ok so I had a chance to do a compression check and it turn out to be crappy..
1st cly 0 compression, 2nd compression 150, 3rd cly 150, 4th cly 150. The one with 0 compression is the one who keeps fouling the plug aswell. Any thought on this? Or information.

Ps. The car pass smog haha

Yeah my 1G is having what seems to have a similar problem. The car is hard to start unless I give it gas while starting it up, and also takes a couple of cranks. At idle it stays on but while driving then coming to a stop the car stalls out. So I have to give it gas while holding in the brake just to keep it running. My bpr6es plugs came out black after less than a week. I did a compression test, it was around 130 except for cylinder #2 was 25-30.

The low compression leads me to believe I need the bottom end rebuilt, but Haynes manual seems to point towards a problem with the valves or somewhere inside the head. I think it would be best to do a leak down test now. This way you could see where the the air comes out. If air comes out the tailpipe it should be due to the exhaust valve leaking. If air gets into the oil pan or out of the dipstick it should be worn or bad piston rings.
