Minor front collision cause a no start?

A friend of mine had a minor collision this past weekend and wrecked the front end of his GST. He did damage to the front bumper, intercooler, radiator support and slight damage to the hood. The intercooler took most of the impact. After the impact he was unable to start his car, and I had to help him pull the car home. Are there sensors in or around the bumper that prevent the car from getting spark or fuel after a collision? The engine will turn over, but not fire... Kinda strange to me.

Also too, he has a pretty unique intercooler setup and was wondering if there was a way to cut or re-use the end-tanks that are on the intercooler at the moment and install them on a new intercooler core.

Thanks in advance for replies. :)

Damage to the intercooler will cause this problem. other than that maybe the exhaust manifold cracked coupler slipped. anything could've broke.

Nothing in the engine compartment was damaged. I guess when the collision happened, he hit the intercooler more towards the passenger side of the car and it pushed back into the radiator support and the radiator was pushed just a tad inwards. Nothing appered to be broken inside the engine compartment. We just got done pulling off the fenders, hood, bumper, intercooler, radiator and A/C condenser in prep for the new radiator support that we'll weld in. He says upon collision the car just shut down. It'll turn over but acts like there is no fuel being given.

so the MAF is okay? if it is try fixing the side mount intercooler then go from there. this has me stumped.

The MAF appears to be alright. Would snow sitting on top of the filter somehow kill it? Even with the sensor unplugged and out of the car it still won't fire. I tried hooking my DSMLink up to the car and turning on the fuel pump and trying to start it and still no luck. I did notice when I did turn the fuel pump on, it made a strange noise that sounded like it was coming from the radio.

I guess what I'm trying to get at is if our cars have a trigger located somewhere in the front of the car that upon impact tells the ECU to stop giving a spark or fuel so that if the accident is bad enough, nothing will catch fire.

Anyone have any ideas?

Anyone?

Bueller?

Is there a reset on the fuel pump itself? A guy at my work I was talking to was telling me that with a minor collision or something jotting around might send a relay to cut fuel so a fire won't start if a collision is bad enough.
