It'd be great to meet some of you guys!!

SlowOldPoop is going if we fix the oil pressure problem. We're going to look at the relief valve again. If we can't find a problem we'll probably just install a secondary relief valve when we install the Canton remote oil filter.

I'm on the fence. I picked up a 3000GT VR4 that I plan to use for road racing, but it's not close to running yet. My Stealth is over-powered, under-braked, and under-tired. :coy: Not a good combination with my lead foot. But I can turn the boost down and still go out and have some fun. Which is what it's all about. :rocks:

Crikes, thats a long ride from Beertown. :notgood:
AMA Superbike weekend at R.A. also. :thumb:

It's a conspiracy I tell ya!

Any drive longer than 4 hours just becomes a blur. :D

Besides MAM is worth it. It has some technical sections where you learn a few things about car control and running sets of corners. It also has a nice long straightaway to let you hang it out for 10 seconds. The only thing it lacks is elevation changes, but it has enough character without them. The high g corners and good passing zones more than make up for the lack of elevation.

Here's some vids I just found to show the course:

The second vid was FUN!

This would assume that either car is remotely near running.

Jack, as far as I know hasn't touched his car since the last track day/bearing dismissal.:barf: Most of that clan is in the north woods, fishing this weekend.

My car is nearing completion.

No worries, I am working towards a "maintenence only:rolleyes: " level, followed by an "acquire a diesel and open trailer" level so I may actually drive more than 1 track.

Any Midwest guys going? It's going to be a crossover event for the Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions. I think I may have a way to trailer my car, which means I'd be going! It'd be nice to meet some of you guys out there.

:thumb:

I'm entered in TTR. All we have to do is solve the high oil pressure problem. I will be ordering a remote mount filter and a pressure relief valve, then we have to figure out how to mount them. Got a DSMLink ready to go in, too.

It seems I misread the dates.WTF

I'm semi-committed to being in North Dakota/Minnesota that week.

Blackcar may be back on the road by that time, however. Hmmm...

For anyone going to MAM, be careful of the thieves. The motels are 2 miles from the Nebraska border, so thieves do a smash-and-grab, then flee for the border. Cops are not allowed to pursue over the border unless it's a felony, so the bad guys get away. Besides, Council Bluffs police are like the Mayberry PD, and might arrive three or four hours after the call.

Therefore, don't leave anything valuable in the race car, pickup truck or on the trailer.

Yes, it's a PITA, but last year I had a smash-and-grab, and they got suitcases, helmets, a camera, the data logger and were working on the Apexi when somebody saw them--in broad daylight!

Here's a photo of Blackcar when it was bone stock, cornering on the door handles:
http://mi3si.org/gatherings/ng03/images/P7101182.JPG

Somebody posted the photo on a 3000GT (3SI.ORG) forum, where people wanted pictures of cars at speed. It was taken at the 3000GT national gathering in 2003 at Gateway International in St Louis. Blackcar is coming off the banking into turn 1 of the infield circuit at about 110 mph. (I trust you have fixed the body roll by now. Otherwise, it tends to cord the front tires)

I think it's neat that Blackcar, a DSM, made it onto a 3000GT photo forum. OTOH, it just about blew the doors off all the 3000GTs there that day. Loved that car!

Thanks Rich. That pic is now in my archive. She actually was kinda pretty before the hood damage. :( Those rims on the other hand...

Body roll was much reduced with the old coils (450#/350#) and a 1" rear sway bar. Now she will be on 12kg/10kg (I forget the lbs. conversion, it's like 1.5 times more rate.) from our Russian friend. Gonna be a WAY different beast in a LOT of ways this season. You are going to like 'er. I'd like to request you as an instructor for my HPDE sessions. At the very least we WILL BE at R.A. for the NASA weekend in Aug. :rocks: :rocks:

Rusher, are you planning on attending that race?

It is going to be very weird, sitting in my old Talon and instructing you, but I am happy to do it. I may have to buy that car back from you one of these days. Same price?

Rich

Same price? Sure after I'm "done" with it. :D

I won't be attending that race. I will be running in an Open Road Challenge in Arnold NE the following weekend and don't want to risk any mechanical failures that close to the SORC.
Too bad, there are a few ideas lurking in that car that may want to find they're way into mine. Oh well, maybe at another race.

We tuned the DSMLink Friday night and compared to the "safe" SAFC tune.......Whoooboooy does this car haul some butt now!! According to the DSMLink it's making 380hp and 340ft/lbs of torque in 3rd! :D And yes we did put in the correct weight and tire info. It was spinning the Hoosiers on the upshift into 3rd. Hopefully with some more heat in them, they won't spin. The car just pulls through the gears so fast that 130mph shows up before you know it. :thumb:
**Testing was done on a closed track and not on desolate public highways at 2am. ;)

I am very, very envious that dsm enthusiasts have the DSMLink. I'd be in heaven if this was available for the 3/S. The datalogging and user interface are on par with the AEM, well no, actually a smidge better since it's DSM specific. Even with the 272 cams, 2G MAF, and crappy O2 sensor, it was incredibly fast and easy to tune. I could've set it straight for 11.3 air to fuel and did a pull. But I went safe and started at 10.9 and pulled some timing. No sir, the dsmlink accurately figured the air fuel ratio down to the tenth. I even ended up adding some timing since the car only ever sees 110 octane. We'll see if much needs changed for race conditions, but I doubt it. 11.3 is still real safe for 110 octane.

I hate to say it but it turns out I can't make it to MAM after all. I was looking forward to meeting up with you guys out there but I have a couple things that just came up that will prevent me from being able to go.

I'm hoping maybe some of you might be able to make it out to the new track out in Hastings, NE on August 25/26 for the NASA event that weekend. Shouldn't be too far for some of you that were planning to attend MAM.

Sorry guys, I wish I could make it.

It's nice to put a face to names. Hopefully things will change back. Rich was so happy he'd have a chance to meet the "Founder". ROFL

Wait Rich, maybe he's trying to sike us out so we won't bring the "A" game. :sneaky:

StealthTT was just kidding. My car isn't nearly as fast as he says.

Hastings might conflict with Road America in August.

Rich
:D okay, if that's the case I'll make it then. :p

Man I wish circumstances were different. I really would love to run at MAM with you guys. It looks like your Road America event is on August 4/5, so hopefully 3 weeks will be enough time to get prepared for the 25/26 at Hastings. It would be a damn good time meeting up with you guys, especially it being a new track. From what I've read that might be the last time I'd get to see you run your car, right Rich?

Yes, my plans are to sell the car after the last event of the season, probably the NASA Nationals. I hope one of the guys on my team buys it so it stays in the family. These plans would change if a sponsor magically appeared, but you know how that goes. It is a fast little car, and gets faster all the time, thanks to my crew of mechanical and electronic geniuses. It deserves a better driver, one who is mechanically gifted about DSMs.

I am completely at sea when it comes to fixing it, and my crew will all be running their own cars next season, so it's tiime for me to pack it in.

Rich
