So I am deciding on getting rid of my water injection and going straight to methanol...unfortunately I can't find any methanol in my city...I tried looking for some at home depot, ace, and OSH but the only thing I could find that contained methanol was a liquid called "denatured alcohol." I don't think that is the same thing so I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on where else I could look for methanol??? or is there another name it can be found by?

Denatured alcohol is ethyl alcohol (ethanol) to which a small percentage of methyl alcohol (methanol) has been added

Look for a product in the auto stores called "Heet". It's a gas-line antifreeze & water remover. Comes in a yellow bottle & I believe it's mostly methanol. Made by Gold Eagle - can Google to find out more info on it. :thumb:

Windshield washer fluid has Meth in it make sure you get the kind that does NOT have suds in it. If you have Walmart near by their brand is super cheap and has meth in it. If you want pure meth you need to call a place that sells fuels locally to you. They will most likely sell it in 5 gallon can for about 30 bucks or by the drum 50gallons for 250ish.

Straight water did almost nothign for me, and a 50/50 mix wasn't great either. I've always run straight meth or alcohol. I could only run about 18 psi on 91 octane, with water injection maybe 20. With a mix, maybe 22. Straight meth/alky allowed me to run as much as 26 psi on 91 octane with no knock. You also should get a larger injector. I'm running an M7 injector which I'll be replacing with an M10. Before I found meth locally, I used denatured alcohol from Home Depot (comes in the blue and orange gallon can). It works just about as well as straight meth.

I finally found some 99.9% methanol from a local auto parts store and its like $3/gal. I also just bought an M15 nozzle for methanol.

OMG What is it called? And what store did you find it? $3/gal is nothing.

It's called methanol. A local Townsend's autoparts store sells race gas (115oct) and they also sell the methanol...I think they have all that because there is a NHRA track here and they race every friday. They sell it for $3/gal but you have to buy it in a 5gal container. Not bad, 5gal for $15.

I have one of my cars(Evo 8 MR) running with alcohol for a while and I switched to methanol for a few month. I had my car tuned 3 times and I also had the car dynoed a few times and off course I raced it at the track.
Switching from alcohol to methanol gave me absolutely no increase in performance. Additionally I also switched my nozzle from a #7 to a number #10 and still did not see any significant improvement.
In theory the methanol is about 5% for efficient. I am running a full progressive SMC kit with the V2 controller.

I'm running 50/50 mix and it was the difference in 18 psi on pump to 24 psi on pump no knock. On just regular $1/gal windshield washer fluid.

I guess everyone has different results with different setups...the guy at fftec (dsm shop) has a daily driven 420hp dsm (on a mustang dyno) with 91 octane, methanol injection with a M15 nozzle. The methanol allows you to boost more on pump because it eliminates knock more than alcohol. Plus, some people say they run methanol but don't realize that they are running a 50/50 mixture of methanol, sometimes called denatured alcohol, not really the good stuff (99.9% methanol).

Efficiency wise the alcohol is not far from the methanol. I am not running water at all because with the water you need to inject even more and it has zero combustion energy.

Also when not tune right the water can cause you missfire at higher rpms giving you the efect of soaked spark plugs. Typically you can fix that with a ignition amplifier such HKS DLI II, Hypersun, or the newest AEM cdi 4 channels. etc.

I haven't bother to install a number #15 nozzle(hago nozzle) because it puts a lot of flow(15 galons per hour) but the real obstacle is that I am runing my methanol/alcohol kit without a failsafe.

My tuner(Dynoflash, Al Friedman) gave me a safe tune so that in case the system fails it would be hard to blow the engine. Needless to say I am compromising a little bit of performance by not having a more aggressive tune.

Methanol prices went up recently, now a gallon of methanol is hard to find it for less than $4.50(a few months ago it was $2.50 in Tucson).

The denature alcohol can be obtained for about $8-9 if you buy it from Ace -hardware in 5 galon special orders.

Good luck!

Damn I feel like I'm in a different country over here. Denatured alcohol (pure) from Home Depot is $14/gal and VP racing M1 Methanol in a 5 gallon drum is $49. :notgood:

eclipsegsx1736 Try some go kart supply stores, 10 dollars is way high. Your paying way to much get an off brand VP is always high. Maybe i should start selling meth.
