After asking an STM guy if they had meth kits he said yes but they dont like using them.

Instead of goin back an asking him why not its more convenient at this moment to ask everyone.

Any Major cons of meth injection? I have a 16G and a Dejon Supa sidemount i dont plan on letting go of so wouldnt it be a good option? How much more power do people typically get out of em?...heheh any +- 20psi examples?

There are no cons. Methanol is great with pump gas. However, I think the guy at STM runs E85 which doesn't show gain.

I don't know what boost people run with 16g turbo with methanol, but when I has on the HX40 turbo I was running 34 psi with the base Snow Performance methanol kit. You do can more with a bigger nozzle and a dual nozzle setup.

This is a good article that explains chemical cooling (meth/water injection) very well. If you want to extract as much power as possible with a meth/water kit it is ideal that you have some form of engine management. Just injecting meth/water with out being able to advance timing will still give you the benefits of a colder/denser air charge, cleaner combustion chambers, and have a greater resistance to knock. Being able to advance the ignition timing and raise the boost pressure will extract the most power with meth/water injection.

Because you run a small side mount intercooler the cooling characteristics of meth/water injection would give you a substantial gains in power.

There really are no con's, unless you are injecting a large and unnecessary amount for the amount of air the engine is flowing.

yea. so pretty much. the only con of methanol is the fact that everyone doesnt have it. i would have blown myself up, no question, if i didnt have methanol when i first started tuning with high boost. ive found that methanol is more forgiving than other "injectable spirits".

a few years ago i got a simple coolingmist kit with 150psi shurflo pump and hooked up various nozzles to it. M3, M5, M7, and now M10. with a evo III 16g(impostor evo3GT) and supporting mods, i would setup the following boosts:
M3: 22-24psi
M5: ~25psi
M7: 26-27psi
M10: 30+psi.
+=- 11.5 and no knock feels great on this turbo. albeit 25-26 feels like the sweet spot.

Worth it! So much so that I actually, for the first time, was completely satisfied with the power delivery of my gst. and now noticed myself driving much more like a sane person rather than speed racering. with great power comes great responsibility. ..and also the fear of breaking things.
time for 272's very very soon. yay!

Most of the gains from methanol inject are neg when running e85. you can always run E100 threw a water methanol injection kit to.

Biggest con for water injection is keeping the tank full. Many years ago pump reliablity was an issue but the new pumps we are using really have lot less issues. We still have not had 1 bad pump come back yet.

The nice thing about methanol as well, is that it is a lot more readily availabe than some other options. Most of the kits are fairly easy install as well. About 2 months ago I just installed one on my friends 5.9l 24 valve cummins, very awesome results! However we don't drive diesels, but the concepts are similar as far a fuel density, temp, etc wether its a ww2 fighter plane, diesel truck, or turbocharged gas burner. And by the way we went with a devils own kit, :thumb: very happy with it.
