metal flakes in my turbo?

I thought I would check my turbo for some end play today and I found that it has approx. 1/8 of an inch up and down play but no in and out play. Also, on the intake side of the turbo I found oil residue with metal flake(very, very, light amounts). Does anyone know what it costs to rebuild a 14b? :cry:

It still spools up nice and I get a constant 11 to 12 lbs of boost at wot. (when its rolling, not in nuetral.) I havent driven the car in three weeks cause my tranny exploded. But that was my fault. Im getting a new tranny next friday. I noticed though, that it has recently started smoking. (I occasionally go out and run it till it warms up so I dont get a dead battery) It didnt do this before it broke. In fact it passed emssions with flying colors like a week before it broke. I did just replace the timing belt for the first time. And it did skip a tooth the morning after. As soon as I heard the valves on the pistons I shut her down. After which I did a comp test and got an average of 130 across the board ( after I fixed the problem ofcourse). I think I only just barely bent the valves and the oil Im burning is the residule that slipped past the valve guides while it sat. Cause it didnt smoke yesterday. It does need an oil change though. Ive read that slight up and down shaft play isnt that bad, as long as its not smoking. Im pretty sure that its not smoking because of the turbo. I'll make the decision whether to junk it or not when I open it up and see the wear on the shaft. It just puzzled me that there would be oil on the intake side of the turbo. It would seem to make more sense that the leak would blow itself out the compression side instead. But I am new to turbos not cars. :rolleyes:
