Messed Up Stock Stereo

my stock stereo on my 2g acts wierd as a motha. it plays cd/radio then all of a sudden dissapears, then if you hit it on the side or press it (on the side of the console) it sometimes starts to play again if not it just stays quite. then i turn it off and maybe next time i hop in my car and tuen on the stereo it might work it might not. WTF! a friend suggested it might need grounding, but seeing it as i know nothing about stereos, im stupid help me out!

the ground wires in our cars are a big ribbon and usually provide a good ground. You could run a new one if you want (connect to body metal away from welds and bolt to the back of stereo). Chances are though that the radio is just bad and you should invest in a aftermarket, you can get a pretty decent one for 100 bucks or like 150 installed with parts. Look at alpine, clarion, pioneer ( a little cheaper but still good). Stay away from sony, jvc, jensen and other ones that are flashy but inexpensive

aight, ill try to ground it again. if not ill see if i get a chnace to get a new stereo soon. do you know where they sell the stereo install kits for dsms? ill try cheking advanced autoparts, autozone, etc.

Install kit? Why at your local bestbuy of course! If you don't have one try Walmart, everyone has one of those within a few miles .

I'd go for the crutchfield one. If you buy a stereo on crutchfield, it comes with a free install kit, wire harness, and instructions. Plus, their install kits have that pocket under the stereo so you can put stuff there Bestbuy's just has a plate that covers the whole thing, plus it doesnt fit that well IMO.

Does your radio lose power or is their no sound output

Two totally different problems and different solutions

If radio loses power than it is either constant or ground or even ignition. If you lose presents then its constant or ground.

If radio has no output than it could be factory amp, bad radio, or speaker(s) is grounding out.

i instaled my jvc and kenwood players in both my 2g talons no install kit is needed its very ez to do and about jvc players they work well just as good as kenwood the ones you need to strear clear of is players like vr-3 or road gear and junk like that.

my stereo loses sound, not power. if im playing a cd, the cd still shows as if it was playing, but no sounds comes out of the pseakers. i got stock everything in stereo, and not the imfinity sound system.

i have a jvc stereo and when i crank it up it just shuts off and restarts immediately but refuses to play at high volume...anyone know what the problem is?

The factory radios ground through the chassis. There is no ground ribbon on the stereo.

Pull the unit out and check for loose wires. Something is moving around and not making contact if hitting it makes it come back on. Oh and btw, dont ever buy stuff from Walmart.

mine is doing the same thing i turn it up load and it gose off then back on but mine came from the amp i belive cause i took out the subs and amp and hooked it to the kenwood cd player i got and with in mins its doing the same damn thing as the jvc now i have to screwed up players

i wonder if my cd player screwed the amp and then the amp did it to my kenwood or if it was the amp all along that fired the jvc cause the amp is a sony 1200 watt and i was useing it for to mb quart platium duel voice coil speakers which i found out that only centern amps will work with these subs do to there so powerfull.

so i decided to sell them speakers get a new amp and go back to useing my jl w4's which i have no problem with powering them.

Since you lose sound your speakers might be grounding out but since it comes on if you hit the radio than it might be something internally with your radio. Try getting another radio to test with or replace the one you have altogether. If you have the same problem with a different radio then test continuity with your speaker wires and make sure they are not grounding out. Even if one wire grounds out your radio will not give output as a safety feature.




And for bam bam if your battery is low the radio will cut out at high volumes because the louder you go the more voltage your radio takes your volume dial is just like a potentiometer.


and for l3ig l3bang if your amp is hooked up correctly is should not effect your radio at all. Your amp only takes signal from your deck and remote turn on thats all, you shouldn't have a problem due to the amp.
