I ordered a Megasquirt controller about 2 weeks ago. I have been running a 420A with custom intake, Ford 65MM throttle body from Crown Vic, custom fuel rail, stock injectors, MSD coil and wires, new plugs, adjustable cam gears, new cam belt and mechanical tensioner. the engine is basically stock internally with just boltons. I received the Megasquirt last week and installed it yesterday. Before the install, I did a dyno pull and was making 175HP and 180ft/lbs torque. the dyno pull was up to 7500RPM, but the egine flatlines at 7000, meaning it did not gain any HP or TQ past 7K. I thought this a bit weak for this engine, even though it is double the output of the stock MG engine and even though I was crossing my fingers that the engine would not explode past 6000 RPM. After the rough install of the MS, the car would not start. Via Tunerstudio I set and adjusted settings and got it to fire and run. It ran very well with very conservative settings, smooth idle, good throttle response, no black/rich smoke. After basic adjustments to the cams (adv a bit) and to the Megasquirt inputs, the engine seemed to come to life more and more. At the end of the day, I ended up with 235HP, according to the DYNO and 246 FT/lbs of torque. I relaize that this is not much compared to others, but for the little MG Midget with the N/A 420A, I was astonished/shocked at the difference in the performance and very pleased that I could tailor many of the inputs with my wife's laptop. I have never seen another MG Midget with this type of tuneability. I mounted the MS box inside and on the top of the passenger footwell. I honestly can not explain how cool it feels to be able to tune a modern-ish engine in an old MG Midget with a laptop. I am hooked!
