I'm trying to put my transaxle back in, and running into problems. I can't get it back up in there to line up straight. The back corner hits the clutch housing, and the part where the axles slide in is hitting the back of the control arm. That part is almost impossible to remove without removing the whole engine first. Which I shouldn't have to. So is there any tips or tricks any one knows to get it to line up? Such as you gotta put the top in first or you gotta turn the tranny clockwise first then get it in, and turn it back?

:ohdamn::notgood::mad::aha:

Ok, so I'm on jack stands. But I need to lift the car up more because my transmission jack isn't clearing what it needs to clear. your saying strap the tranny straight up how its gonna sit in there, and lift it straight up to the flywheel. my problem is the back part hits the front bolts on the control arm, and if I move it it hits somewhere else. Then when I do get it past that bolt its crooked, and hits the clutch housingg. Or the end of the transmission hits the top part of the fender well on the frame.

I got it. My problem is too much maneuvering. Turn it this way, turn it back twist here twist there. The only travel it needs to do is straight up. I'm gonna sleep on this,a nd try again tomorrow. I'm beat.

Let me just say I completed my transmission swap yesterday. After wrestling the tranny on the jack for an hour or so. The way I got it to go in, and up to the flywheel was I turned it counter clockwise a few inches. it then missed the control arm bolts all together. after it mated the fly wheel I turned it back clockwise till the pins lined up, and put a few bolts in to hold it. then spun the T/C output shaft so the clutch splines matched, and mated the rest was there after that.

After it was all buttoned up I drove it up the street, and back. Beautiful! no vibrations so sounds nothing! The clutch slips in first gear but it takes 30 start ups, or more for the clutch plate to seat.:applause::rocks::hellyeah::thumb:

Good job getting it in there. The best tip I can give for the future is to make sure you have the axle side of the transmission "clocked" so I will clear the subframe, then twist the tranny back straight onto the engine dowels and into the clutch splines. That's also a good tip on the output shaft. Sometimes a slight turn of that shaft is needed to get the tranny shaft to line up with the clutch splines. The splines could be off a hair, not allowing the shaft to slide into them making everthing appear to be lined up, just not sliding in.

Righto. Thanks, I didn't have access to a picker so I used a tranny jack. I'm sore as all today...That drive shaft, and down pipes gonna have to wait! I wouldn't be soo sore if I hadn't spent 3 hours fighting that tranny like that.:banghead:
