Ok, I have a 91 3000gt vr4. I have had the tranny from a gto sr, the AWD Auto. It is identical to the dsm autos except for the bellhousing shape. I just recently welded the center diff and put it back together and now getting ready for the install. I am not worried about the mechanical differences. I know those. I am looking for what I need electrically.

Now I know this is not a 3000gt forum and I know the wiring harness ect is not the same. But that is not what I need to know. I just need the basics as it is mainly a drag car and i really just need to know what the wiring is for on the tranny. I see green wires going to black plug, and one red wire going to a big plastic circle ect. I am new to auto trannies. I have never knew much of how i works electrically.

As far as the TCU, I dont care at all about that and dont need info on it and am not going to use it. I have taken it out of every DSM auto I have owned and I just hook up a 12v to 2 toggles and run them to the 4 pin plug for the solenoids and I shift myself with full line pressure ect. So I know how to wire the shifting part of the auto. But I dont know what the other wires are for and what kind of signal or polarity they need ect.

I would greatly appreciate help. Or even just to be pointed in a good direction about specifics on the auto sensors and what they need. Thanks

Well i found the manual. I see that the pulse generators and kickdown servo both have wiring but it seems like they go to tcu. And since I never use a tcu, i guess I dont need any of that wiring??

If you aren't using a TCU, the only wires you need to worry about are solenoid A and solenoid B

I'm curious about your swap though, that seems like a pretty fun setup. I always wanted to do an auto 3kgt VR4 but the thought of ease/price of repairs vs a DSM kept me away from it. Love those cars. What all do you have to change with the trans? Rear diff and transfer case?

Sweet, I didnt know you could just leave all the other not plugged in. But after looking that the tcu controls it all I figured that was it. That is so simple and easy and what i do with all my dsms. I just didnt know that the rest didnt even need wiring.

I bought the auto from jdm depot. It came with the awd auto, tcase, starter, torque converter, flex plate, bolts and even the piece of the drive shaft that goes into tcase. All for 200 bucks. All parts inside tranny and even the tcase is identical to the 1g DSM. SO all the same gear ratios in tranny and tcase.

Now what you need to do is either get the gto sr driveshaft that is made for the car or just use the front section they give you and have it welded onto a vr4 driveshaft and balanced. or even use the front 1/3 of a dsm driveshaft and the rest the 3000gt or maybe even dsm all together but i dont know that for sure. BUT the dsm driveshaft is pencil sized compared to a vr4 so I would modify a vr4 one. Now in the vr4, mine was a 5 spd so it has the 5 spd rear end. So that means that the gear ratios will be a little off. The gear ratio is higher for 5 spd rear i believe so the auto gears will be shorter. But if you get the 6 spd rear from a 94+ vr4 or just start with a 94+ vr4 you wont have to worry about that. But I welded my center diff (same as auto dsm) I am gonna run fwd for a couple weeks til i can get my driveshaft made up to fit right.
