hey guys, i just wanted to know if there is any way i could cut the throttle cable, make it shorter and then use something to hold the 2 ends of the cable together again. if i can find something that makes the 2 ends attachable, then i can eliminate my cruise control, make the engine bay look cleaner and so on...
thanks for the help

why not just use a Non-cruise throttle cable like this one...

I ran a non-cruise cable, and just ran it down against the firewall instead of over the head. It looks WAY better, and it doesn't interfere with anything.

Or, find some braided cable, and i'm sure you could make your own. If you look at the ends of the stock cable, I don't think it'd be TOO difficult to make fittings on the ends that would work. I think the hard part would be getting the sleeve held back onto the brackets. good luck, let us know how it goes

On my car if you take the cruise out and just leave the stock line that goes from the pedal to the cruise box, it is a nice short length. There is no need to find a way to hide that big long non cruise cable, just bend it from the fire wall to the throttle body. Cleanest look by far.

Hmmm... I hadn't looked at that option. So, the fitting at the cruise box is the same as at the TB? I'll have to take a look at that. Thanks for the info!

As far as not having cruise... I don't mind it. I like to feel the pedal and have my mind on the whole driving experience. Besides, it's safer. Think about a long trip. You start to get drowsy. Usually there's a tendency to ease up on the accelerator as you fall asleep, because your muscles relax. So, IF you do fall asleep and go off the road, you'll be going slower at least. With cruise controll, you're guarenteed to hit whatever it is at the full 60-70mph. OMG

EDIT: from below: yeah, I can't believe Insurance companies haven't gotten them outlawed...

How do you guys live without cruise control? I'd never remove mine.
I get on the highway maybe twice a year for a long drive. I took mine out.

Agreed. :thumb:

Aye, i ripped mine out too. Looks 1000 times cleaner with a non-cruise cable, and i prefer driving without cruise. That crap weighs a lot too. Well. . . weighs a lot for a cruise box and lines. And the install if the new cable is a snap, not to mention throttle response is better.

I took mine out awhile back so i had room for the GM mas in the UICP and replaced it with a non-cruise control cable. But it does look cleaner as well. Alittle less weight but not really all that much.

The fitting is not the same, it is smaller on the cruise control end, but for now I am going to use it and make a bushing out of some brass tubing around the end. Then sometime I will pick up a non cruise cable.

I think the point of this question was to ask if there is a way to make the non-crusie cable shorter like blackcarbon did. Even though the non-cruise cable only comes out of the firewall, you still have to loop it around to make it fit. Could still be made shorter so it is just a straight shot.

I took the cable out of the plastic housing its protected in, trimmed the metal tube which is connected to the bracket that mounts on the intake manifold, cut the cable at the pedal end, and put a ball of jb weld at the tip of it so that it stays on the gas pedal---

and then I got a non-cruise cable :p
