Making stock heat shields look better

Well my car did not come with the heatshields on it and I wanted to get them just to reduce the heat in the engine bay a little bit if I can. So I picked up some used ones from a buddy for pretty cheap and they aren't in the greatest condition. They have random little spots of minor rust forming all over and I'm wondering what I could do to treat them and either polish them up or paint them like a nice black color for a nice look under my hood. Any ideas would be nice. I just don't know what I could all do to them since they are in a hot spot under the hood. Thanks guys.

Well since my regular-black spray painted heatshield is kinda holding up under the heat, I would imagine that high-temp spray paint from autozone would work just fine.

I'd personally go with a lime-green color.

You basically have 2 options that will hold up to the heated conditions. You can either get them ceramic coated (can be pricey) or you can buy an aftermarket one that is polished. It will fade a bit over time but it still looks much better than stock.

Yeah I was thinking about that but then the thought of removing the small rust spots on them came to mind. I don't know what to use to remove the spots that won't leave scratch marks in the heat shield.

I had decent luck just wire brushing mine off since it wasn't too bad. If you want to paint it, try rustoleum grill paint. By far the best high temp paint I've used.

Oh thats a great idea! I never thought of using that stuff. It should hold up nicely and the wire brush should hopefully remove most of it. I just want them to look decent under the hood as well.
