if you want, i can upload a PSD file and send you the link via PM. but the file is kinda big. all in all it's a work of around 6 hours. but i'm a photoshop noob. i can only do these kind of cartoon-cars...

The "how" is like throwing darts or hitting a baseball. It's a skill, and not something you can tell someone how to do. If you can write with a mouse, it'll be easier. If you keep dropping your crayon, it won't.

don't do the lines with free hand. use the path-tool in photoshop! and for myself: i do use only pictures with a resolution of 1024 x 786 minimum. the black eclipse above (backster) was 1600 x 1200. the pic has to be in great quality and all the bodylines have to be sharp - not blurry.

Here is what I was able to do. I didn't use any tools other than the paintbrush and line tool. I had to shrink it to fit.

Anyone know of a free program I can use to try this out? Got banned from CoD2 for 2 weeks from the server I play on for disrespecting those who cant spell basic 3 and 4 letter words, so this will give me something to do in my free time while it cools down outside enough to work on the car.

Part way done with mine. The tutorial I posted has some weird methods for getting the outline of the car. Much easier to just trace it with the pencil, paintbrush, and line tool.
