I have been doing some research. I just purchased a 1998 GSX from a junk yard, and someone beat me to it and pulled the motor. Nothing wrong with that. I was wondering what kind of block to go with, and what kind of internals. I really was looking into buying a Magnus Short block, but then I looked at amsperformance.com and they have a Stage 1 shortblock with ross pistons. So technically my question is, what would be the better purcahse for a 700 HP DD? I know Ross makes amazing pistons, but I have never seen or heard about Magnus pistons in action. Please help me out!

I daily drove a 99gsx with 723awhp for a couple years. (640 on boost, plus 100 shot of nitrous if that counts for you). That car cost me almost $60k over 4 years to build and maintain. It can be done, it will be expensive, you will spend at least a couple hours every week in the garage fixing something, and you will not want to drive it more than a few miles everyday.

Anythings possible LOL. But not everything is smart, 700hp daily driver is kind of far fetched unless you live in a pool full of money, I have a 325whp talon and I don't even dd that!!!! I have to say MAGNUS MAGNUS MAGNUS but jmf for intakes!!

Anything over 500hp on the street is useless. if you want to daily drive the car do a 2g piston 1g rod car with an evo III 16g and make 300-350hp that's all you will EVER need/use on the street and you wont break nearly as much shit. Use your head on this one, if you want a race car build one but don't try to drive it daily.

Lol, Money isnt an issue. And thanks for all the sarcasm, but a buddy from here does have a 685.9 HP Eclipse DD and he even has dyno sheets.

Well as long as money and down time aren't an issue then def magnus. And no one here said that it isn't possible. Just not smart/adviseable (for most areas of the country) and almost definitely its not going to be what you're expecting.

Example...if you have enough money to build a 700hp DSM (but not enough to buy a Z06, GT500, M6, etc) you are still are not going to be happy driving around town in traffic and getting less than 10mpg with your 1600cc injectors.

Like I said, I did it though. But only because my commute to and from class and work was less than 10 minutes and I spent just as much time at the track as I did in class. Not to mention I could always borrow a friend's car when something on mine broke. Fyi if you are planning on having this as DD then have a second DD.

Out of curiousity...you planning on 2.0 or 2.3?

magnus or ams, can't go wrong either way.

magnus is local to me, ive seen their 2g awd methonal powered car first hand and let me tell you its badass.

Go with Magnus. I would have them build you a 2.2l long rod stroker. Then get yourself and FP 3586hta to compliment the motor. Run that mofo on e85 and you will have your 700whp DD no problem. You will need all the supporting mods and a built tranny, but Its possible.
