I've seen quite a few cars with this setup, how much did you guys pay? Because as I am seeing it now this is what I'm going to be spending:

3" GM MAF - $40 ebay
Translator - $200 ebay/any vendor
Dejon Tool UICP Pipe for GM MAF - $200
Dejon Tool Hard Intake Pipe - $100

I mean, that's gonna be $600 after shipping for this setup, is that what all you have paid? Just seems a little high. It's the ricer in me that wants to vent my 1G CBV (and eventually upgrade that) so I want to do the setup. Is there any ways to cut costs here and there but not lose functionality?

Thanks
Jason

honestly, buying the gm maft just to vent is kinda silly. i guess everyone has their price. sure you will see some of the benefits of it like quicker spool and such, but if the MAIN reason that you getting it is to vent, i say no go. i got my maf for free from a buddy of mine that had one sitting around. he said it came off a early 90's vette i think. either way, that is roughly what you are looking at unless you make your own IC and intake piping instead of buying the premade kit. the maf controller is gonna be the same all around unless there is a vendor special. dont remember the last time that was for those pieces. you might be able to get the maf cheaper from a junkyard if they havent heard how much they are "wanted" now because of dsm's.

Well venting isn't the only reason, it isn't even really the primary reason, I want to get rid of my stock MAF so I can use a hard intake pipe, venting is just sort of a bonus. I mean that $600 should yield some fairly nice gains, and would set me up for future mods as well.

My other option is a HKS VPC, which I wouldn't mind getting at all, especially since prices seem to be pretty low on ebay. I've just heard initial tuning on them is a NIGHTMARE, and not sure if I want to deal with it.

the gain with a ,aft is airflow and tuneing the stock maf flows like 200 something cfm and a gm maf flows like 500ish thats the gain. to free up constructions in the intake track

what!!!! How does a maf have a flow number?

The change to the maft will not yield big gains by itself. However it makes it much easier to rune a CAI so that should be thought of.

i would probly go with the maft over the HKS VPC just because it is newer technology and many people seem to be jumping on the boat(so it must do something right). support for the VPC is most likely null to slim on a "help me, its broke" basis.

crank.. put your stock oem mitsu mass air sensor on a flow bench. then put a gm mass air sensor on a flow bench. the gm will outflow the oem one hands down at any point.

by flow i am reffering to the amount of air that can pass through the unit at any point in time. also the gm mas is a larger diameter and allows for a quicker spool up of the turbo

along with haveing the mas after the bov helps decrese in leaks that can happen before the mas itsself becasue any air that is brought in under non boost conditions by vaccum will be accounted for hence better tuneing at idle ect...
