So im about ready to get my engine to the machine shop and get the crank cut the head rebuilt and block done. so the guy is a friend of my dads and is doing the complete head rebuild for 180$, the crank cut for 55$ the the block honed for 45$. since hes a friend of my fathers, he said he will hot tank anything i need for free :D. im just wondering if those prices seen right/good deal. I have a question about the rods too. i was planning on getting forged rods and oem 2g pistons. he said that forged rods wouldnt work with my oem pistons? is that true? if it is what do you think about 45$ for the stock rods to get reconditioned? so total without the rods would but 280 and 325 with rods just for the machine work. sound good?

LOL no offense to dsmgraveyards but ill never buy ANYTHING from there. ive heard WAY to many bad things from them haha. anythoughts on the forged rods/stock pistons idea? i read that forged rods are used with full floating wrist pins and they wouldnt work with oem pistons :/. ideas?? thanks dsmtuners!!

I don't know of any forged pistons that don't use full floaters. But yeah, floating wrist pins are not friendly wit stock rods. I see you have a 2g. If your still running the 7 bolt bottom end, look into a set of Evolution 9 pistons.

Yeah those prices seems decent for machine work. They guy I take my stuff too charges 10$ a cylinder for hone. 15$ a cylinder for increased bore + hone. 10$ A valve for valve jobs etc. This is assuming you have done all the major break down for him.

He usually hot tanks my stuff for free if he is doing work on it too. If not he charges me 5-10$ for hot tanking services.

The last head he built for me was 185$ for all the work he did. Last bottom end was 310$ For hot-tank, resurface, full rotating assembly.

If you don't know what your doing I would recommend letting him install your pistons etc. The rings need to be measure and filled. He will need the pistons to calculate Piston-to-wall clearance. He will need to plastigauge your bearings and make sure everything is in spec.

yeah i know what im doing i cant all tolrances. i just put my friends motor together. and the guys work is good everything on my friends motor was within spec . so those prices seem decent? i guess ill be taking my motor to him thanks everyone. .and thanks for the piston advice. im going to do forged rods/2g pistons. thanks everyone :D
