maf or no maf?

Hello I'm newbie ,and I was wondering I currently have 2g Maf and dsm link v2 can I eliminated the Maf and still can get tuned w the link?or what combination you guys can suggest?? Thanks.

if u want to eliminate the maf, you need to run a gm maf or speed density. how would a computer read how much air are coming in to balance or mix out the fuel.

You cant not run with out anything and it all depends on your power levels the stock maf is proven to run up to 400/500 bhp a popular set up is the GM maf because of where it locates the maf it doesnt jack your system up if you get a vac leak because it put it back by the t/b. or you can run speed density dont know a whole bunch about this besides it uses the stock maf or the gm maf with no translator i believe and you are just reading boost/vac and that you need V3

Speed density does not use a maf! It uses a map sensor and IAT sensor. You have to have link v3 for that option.

How many lbs/min are you planning? If its around 40 or under stick with a 2g maf or a blowthrough maf if you want the cosmetics. I know people say theyre accurate up to 3khz but in my personal experience i dont believe that at all. If youre looking for 25+psi on good size turbo(not a 16g) then just go ahead and get the SD kit from ecmtuning.
Dont get me wrong, you CAN run a ton of flow with a maf but it gets a little flaky past 50lbs

Thanks,and yes I'm looking to run over 25psi,right now its at 21 with a gt30 Turbo,like I said I'm a newbie ,,and people keeps telling me to put a 3 bar map or stuff like that so I just don't know which way to go,so I'm looking for the best way to go that won't limit me BC eventually I'm looking to keep upgrading..where I can look up that speed density one ? Checked stmtuned and didn't see it ..thanks again guys..

And also forgot to ask,,if if I put the bov to dump to atmosphere would that mix up my current settings?or would be the same way it is now?

there ya go son. Thats if you have a stock IM and want to boot the MDP sensor and replace it. Otherwise you can weld in a bung i think. Theres another package they sell with that option.

Aas far as dump to atmo with bov, i do and i have a 2g maf. Listen, if its adjusted properly the only real downside is in between shifts you car runs rich for a few hundredths of a second. But only shifting when while boosting. Normal shifts dont matter cause the bov doesnt dump that metered air out. On my stock setup i had more problems with vent to atmo but after upgrades i saw absolutely no problems. Just one less hose.

With SD you can vent to atmo. In fact recirculating on SD would be dumb and pointless since the air is metered basically at the TB and IM(combo of pressure and temp)

And not to be picky, but you really need to spend time on ecmtuning doing a ton of reading bro. Also just read around the site. Theres a section dedicated to tuning, while you cant post there yet, you can still read. trust me, you just need to read and read some more.

Thanks,,and that's exactly what I've been doing readinand reading,,trust me I really do want to learn about this,,and for now I'm going to have someone from rochester dsm put it together for me i just wanted to get the idea of the better way to go,and sound like SD is the way to go,,I just bought the car about a month ago,,this is my first 4g63 so all this sensors and stuff are new for me,,and I've been thinking on going to v3 or a stand alone Ecu ,I don't know about that one yet thanks again..

He is going to have to upgrade to V3 to run speed density...pretty sure about that...or he can run a GM MAF with a MAF translator.
