I have a 96 TSi with injen intake and stock 2g MAF (4.5" filter). My issue is that I don't have short route innercooler piping so a normal cone air filter won't work. I have to assume this problem is had by others but I cannot find a 4.5" inlet air filter. I've seen mushroom style filters on ebay and hks website but not in 4.5. I'm thinking about making my own with foam so if anyone else has done this I'd like some input. Thanks.

What about it doesn't fit? I have even less room than stock with the RRE uicp and I can fit the FIPK in no prob, and that's about as honkin' as you can get on a stock style intake.

Is the filter just too long? In order to use the large filters with the injen style intake you must break out the hacksaw. A bit from both ends, while still maintaining enough material for the couplers made for a perfect fit.

There may be other alternatives.

I looked at your engine bay; my innercooler piping is 2.5" and isn't as tight to the side as yours. I'd have to cut a quadrant off for it to fix. I assume other ppl have come across this issue too so I'll check some other responses and if no luck - maybe try some pics.

My car came with the hks filter i really dont like it,and have been looking into getting a k&n im running the injen intake too.I went out and measured we should be able to run this filter RU-3480 from k&n.I will let you know for sure when it arrives.

Thanks everyone for the help thusfar. I/m gonna keep monitoring this thread daily and see what else you all think. I'll also look at the afore-mentioned filters and get back at you. Thanks

Well the only one that looked like it had a shot was the one Kyle posted but in looking under the hood one more again... it ain't gonna happen. I wish I had the ability to post a pic but unfortunately I'm not that technologically advanced. I can use my office's stuff on weekends if need be. I believe the only filter that would work is a mushroom type but I may just end up fabbing something.
