That thing is nuts!! He is obviously built that car to the limits of the rules.
I wasn't aware our cars ran in F Prepared, I'm running mine in E Prepared because there's nobody in FSP, but it was my understanding the n/a cars ran EP, and the turbo cars ran DP.

Can anyone clear this up??

Full Prepared
See page 193 in the 2006 rule book. Turbo DSM's from 90-98 run in FP. Didn't see a listing for the N/T in Prepared didn't feel like reading to much to figure out the exact class you should run in.

Stock
AWD is classed in DS page 150
FWD turbo is classed in GS page 154
Non turbo is classed in HS page 157

Street Prepared
All turbo models ESP page 166
Non turbo models FSP page 168

Street turing
STU

Street mod
SM

Hopefully that helps everyone.

DSMs run in STX, not STU. (It's the Evos that go to STU.) Not that it's any fun at all in STX ever since the "take back" on IC piping and CBVs. I know of only one DSM that has run a national event in STX since the take-back in 2004.

There was a shuffling of classes in Prepared a few years ago, too. The F-bodies didn't want us in CP any more, so we got booted to FP. That means it's very hard to escape the M3s. And the 914s and Loti in FP aren't much fun to play with, either.

I've long believed that the best shot for a DSM in autocrossing is ESP. At Nationals last year, Charles Moss was the fastest non-STEvo. But none of the well-known F-bodies were there. It will be fun to see how he does this year.

Or XP if you don't have a 52mm inlet restrictor. This one caught me off guard, I was reading the rule book with some people at an EVO school 2 weeks ago and we couldn't believe you needed a restrictor in prepared class. XP doesn't have this restriction, pretty wide open class. I had been running in FP, but now I'm going to run XP, when I'm not running my sts2 miata. Doesn't really matter to me because my car isn't competitive, I just do it for fun. I try to switch back in fourth between the two cars, the miata is a much better autoX car the the talon is a ton of fun.

I plan on running in DS class when I start AutoX soon....

What exactly can I do, or not do to my car?

I need this info from you veterans with experience.

If you could go back and start in DS, what would you do to your car?

Most important three for D/S:
R-comps on OE-sized wheel with offset within 1/4" of stock
shocks (but not springs)
cat-back exhaust

edit: I hate to say this, but actually #1 on the list should be: start with a 2G with no sun-roof

So, what does R-comps mean? Sorry, I'm still a newb at this.

My shocks are beaten to death, so new shocks by default.

Which shocks should I get to stay in DS class?

I already have a 3"cat-back exhaust.

I've looked into that XP class, it's a blending of Prepared and SM. Simply it has more allowances for motor swapped cars and such so they don't have to go into the Modified category!!
In EP where I'm at I have to face 1500lb crx's with 150hp and go-kart handling, they pretty much own EP.

Here.

If you are really new to autocrossing, get a set of (used?) Victoracers. They are much more forgiving than V710s or Hoosiers.

Definitely Konis. I don't care how hard they are to adjust on a 1G.

By koni's do you mean the Koni 8 way adjustables?

So, those are the "only" modifications i can do to my car to compete in DS?

I already have 93 awd front brakes by the way....

It's just too bad that all 97+ Eclipse GSX's came with sunroofs standard :\

Interesting, but.... Whether all of them that appeared at dealers had sunroofs is only an issue of difficulty. It was a single-item check-off option on the sheet, so you can create a 97+ GSX with no sunroof by other means and still be legal for DS. Also, I know of at least one 97 TSi AWD and one 98 TSi AWD with no run-roof, so this must only a problem for those driving "foreign" cars, as it should be. ;)

I mean Koni Sports (yellows).

Then you are already beyond D/Stock.

It's possible you may still be able to run in stock class, the brakes might fall under the update/backdate rule. Also, in stock class all cars made in 92 or prior are allowed steel braided brake lines!!

Apparently not the case with Talons, however: Mine (late '97 production '98) has none, and the only other sample at the same dealership at the time didn't either. For me it was only a choice of grey vs. copper...

Um, and where did you get the idea that UD/BD exists in Stock? Not the rule-book. That's SP and above.

- Jtoby

Ugh, I'm probably confusing things again, I've been reading the solo rule book and the NASA ccr a lot recently. Too much info swirling around in my head and not enough processor for it all!!

CCR doesn't allow the brake upgrade for fwd's since no fwd ever came with the big calipers, but they do on the awd's. I take the same hit for these 2 piston calipers as I would for a full 13" stoptech setup

Good news is that if you do a motor swap into an nt chassis and use all the tsi equipment your car gets re-classed as a gst and not an nt with motorswap penalty.

:rocks: Good excuse to save up the money and get the Stoptechs then!!
