So my car is a 98 and I'm wondering how exactly I would find out if it has the lsd rear end. If not where would I be able to find one of them?

If your car came from the factory with an lsd rear..Look inside your driver door..There will be an orange sticker if the care came with the lsd rear..

Or get under the car and read the back of the diff..

ther is also a sticker on the rear diferential that says if it has lsd,
my car didnt came with the orange sticker, because it was repainted, and the rear dif cover was also painted black but i was able to clean it with acetone.
haha

In the rear of a car that came with a LSD from the factory. Use the search function man. This site has hundreds of thousands of threads and damn near every question you can think of has been answered and discussed in depth.

A good place to look for parts is the classifieds. You can also check craigslist because more times than not there is a DSM being parted out somewhere within driving distance of you.

Is it possible to convert a non lsd rear end to an Lsd? If not would it be possible to find one from another type of car?

To find out if you have a lsd lift up the car and turn the rear wheel by hand, if the one on the other side spins the same way you have an lsd, if it spins the opposite way its not lsd.

Thanks for all the help Ill try to do some research on the evo interals and if not try and track down one of the lsd rear ends

I believe that the LSD rear diff should have a tag on the back that says "BFH" at least that is what I have and mine is a GSX with factory LSD

Evo 8 diff internals can be fit in a dsm diff and is actually desired among the road course guys.

I spoke to sheptrans about doing that. They told me the diff housing needs to be machined on the inside to use an EVO 8 LSD. I'm thinking about it.

I looked at my Diff and it said LSD but when i turn my wheel, another turn the opposite direction, so i don't know exactly wtf is going on with my LSD diff :)

Yeah I looked at the cover on mine, definitely not an lsd unfortunately. Now I am on the hunt for a good lsd, maybe I can track something down in the junk yard

Also, keep an eye on the DSMtuners classifieds, also check eBay vendor "justjapparts"

I am not sure if the talon is still there but in the junkyard on 33rd n peoria, there was a 97 TSI. You MAY get lucky by it being there . Good luck and NO a 1g rear won't fit.

Little late-but you can use a non-lsd dsm rear housing with non-acd evo 8 internals. No machining required. This gets rid of your viscous lsd in favor of the better evo 8 one. You have to use a passenger side dsm lsd axle on your drivers side however to make this work.
