alright i'm new to the DSM scene...have only had mine for a little under a year and i wanna hopefully get some work done to it. I recently had a buddy of mine (going to school for auto tech) do some repairs/upgrades on my car since i'm slightly dumb when it comes to cars and he told me i have an independent rear suspension on my 99 Eclipse RS. he also said with independent suspensions you cannot put lowering springs or adjustable coilovers on without getting rid of the independent suspension. is this true? if it is how much work needs to be done, what kind of parts need to be purchased ...but if it isn't true then what would you all recommend as for lowering (i would say about 2"...3" at max). any help would be much appreciated.

What???????? Your buddy has not idea what he is talking about. If you go lower than 1" drop you will need a rear camber kit and some new shocks or your tires will wear unevenly and shocks will blow out. The eiback prokit is the only springs that will work on stock shocks and wont mess up your camber.

LOL, thanks for the quick replies...that is just the type of info i was looking for. i'll talk to him about that...they might not have covered that section quite yet or he may be going on what his dad used to tell him back in the day when he worked on cars. so i need an eibach prokit...kk that works, i'll see what i can find for those and maybe pick me up one. thanks again...i'm sure i'll be back with a LOT more questions regarding my DSM....plan on putting a lot of money into it and will need some steering advice.

He is right, if you want to lower your car with IRS you have to get leaf springs and a solid rear axle...

j/k, but yea, what the wisemen said is true. What an IRS is is each wheel has its own strut/shock and spring. Replacing the spring with a shorter one allows for you to drop the car. Or you can remove the spring and cut one or two coils off to lower it an inch or two, but this is NOT RECOMMENDED, as it is dumb and will cause your car to not handle both turns and bumps properly. I would reccomend a drop of 1.5" or so. Look into the Tokico Illumina struts and springs, you can buy a package of 4 struts and 4 springs on eBay for $475 shipped, which is an awesome deal. These struts are 5 way adjustable and the springs will lower the car around 1.5".
