Hi all,

As you can tell this is my first time as a member and my first post.
I have been reasearching and even asked my freinds about the question Iam about to ask...but I couldnt find the answere anywhere.
I would like to start out by saying that in this forum there are professionals and thats why I am here..to learn, I really appreciate every effort that everyone is doing and helping in making this forum successful!

My question is: I just bought some lowering springs (dont know their name) off ebay, they are the adjustable with locking mechanism and springs package. Now, i know the springs are the "cheap" kind and my car is a 99 eclipse with the OZ package already in it. So, can i keep my OZ springs (factory) and use the locking system that came with the package on my factory springs rather than using the springs that came with the package?

If so, would anything be damaged? and what do i have to look out for?

Thanks.

I dont think that you cant I think the springs will be diffrent lengths, but im not sure without a picture of the kit you bought. Be careful my friend bought a cheap set of coilovers from e-bay and one broke one him:mad: While he was driving pretty hard. Coilovers is one of those things that I will gog ahead a spend the money for the good ones. Oh yea they rode like CRAP when he had them on.

Oh I forgot WELCOME to Dsm tuners

no you can not. If you got those ### coilovers throw them out and get some better springs. You will regret putting those things on.

When you buy those cheap ebay springs, they arent the same as tein... or any name brand coilovers because.... springs have a different rebound rates depending on the stress of the spring. Those cheap springs dont have a correct spring rate when you compress them. You can use those all day for looks, but you wont get the performance you might be looking for. I personally dont see a good resaon to get coilovers, when you can just get springs, and have good performance. That also goes for your stock spings too. They are made to work with a certian weight load, compressing them wont give good performance like you might think, I hope this helps bud. Welcome TOO! :dsm: :rocks:

I have tein basics which i got of a guy on tuners for 600 shipped and they beat the crap out of konis which is what my friend has. Tein is the way to go. The ride is better then stock blown shocks and def better the AGXs or Tokicos in my opinion.

Looks like the nays have it.

They are right. You will not be able to use the new perches with your stock springs. There are other aftermarket springs which may fit but your stock shocks probably won't be up to the task.

Thanks everyone, I was having difficulty in finding the lowering kit I want and thats why I bought the ones off ebay thinking that I can adjust it to whatever height I want. I just want to lower the front end of the car 1.5-1.75 inches and the back 2 inches..and I just couldnt find any like that??? The reason really that I am lowering the car is more for the looks, and then for performance. The OZ shocks and springs that I have are pretty stiff b/c everytime I hit a bump or a pothole it hits pretty hard... also my car is moderatly low (u might think I am stupid for lowering it more, but I want looks and more stability) and will post pictures of it...

So any help in that area would be appreciated..

How much money are you trying to spend on suspension? You can get sprint springs which give you a 2 inch drop and are cheap and some shocks. If you want something better get coilovers. You can get the tein basics which is what i have (AMAZING!) or some megan coilovers (700 on ebay). But if you have the $ get the Tein Type Flex with the EDFC controller. Whatever you get, dont buy anything cheap from ebay.

Ok, No one cleared it up for me why the "cheap" ebay springs to me...What will they do? I mean what harm will happen from them?? What will i expect?

Here is a link of what I bought

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-9...032821346QQcategoryZ33586QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and from what iam reading...everyone is telling me to get this correct?

And or these

Iam still a student..so Iam on a budget, after I graduate though, its diffrent (which is May 06 by the way :D)

Those cheap springs will not hold up more then 1000 miles. They will crack,, deform and the ride quality will be crap.
Here are some options:

Just good springs (I recommend S tech with stock shock) -- 150 shipped on ebay

Tein S-tech or Sprint springs and cheap shocks (KYB GR-2 or tokico HP) -- about 300 on ebay

^^same springs with KYB AGX or Illumina shock -- about 500 on ebay

Tein basic is about 700 and so is the megan coilover

Got it....

But all i see is a drop of 1.3 front and rear for the tein, I want 1.5 front and 2 rear

Ok, so lets say i put these "cheap" coil covers in my car, will they pop, break or damage my car?

Any of those cheap springs wont last like the name brands. Drop zone is better......but I still wouldnt recommand them. Im telling you NOW!!!!, get the tein springs with KYB's for struts. Thats what im getting, and its great for your budget!!!! TRUST ME

I definitely wouldn't get coils, my buddy had coilovers and it was nothing but trouble. Adjusting them equally all the way around got to be a hassle, and I dont think it was better, they were move expense then the springs, and I dont think its worth the extra money. I can get those Tein springs for $120 shipped. If you haven't already got them, I could help you out and let you know the store. Its where I get all my stuff, I've bought alot of stuff from this guy, and I haven't had any complaints. He also distributes through ebay, so if your interested, he could get you a pretty good deal. He also has the KYB AGX shocks. Hope everything works out with the car, it was definitely better to get springs. You dont want the risk the well being of your car over a cheap set of coils. Cheers.

yeah i got them jdm crap coils on my car... got em for christmas, but they suck so bad. you can tell the spring rates are off ### i got em all the way down and its lop sided, the ride is stiff but bouncy... my struts aren't bottoming out or anything, i still have like 2.5in of strut play, and the fronts are so stiff i cant believe it. finally got em evened out... looks good, but rides horrible...

im definately gonna buy some actual springs and struts for my car when i get the money. my friend got the eibach sportline springs on his car, i like the feel of it, so what struts would be good for the dollar to go with, with the eibach sportline??

thanx all

There are good coilovers and there are not so good. There are good springs and there are not so good. I'll not use the "you-get-what-you-pay-for" cliché but when you make a decision to buy cheap, off-brand suspension components, you can't expect them to perform well.

A good suspension will cost anywhere from $800-$2000. If you were shopping for turbos and you found one selling new for $200, you would be highly suspect of the quality, right? The same goes for suspension components.
