Lower radiator hose doesn't get hot...but I don't overheat. WTF?

I am wondering something here....I had never checked before, but did today and my lower radiator hose is cold. The bottom end tank is cold. Yet my upper hose is hot and the top end tank and maybe half of the radiator is hot. Is the lower hose supposed to be cold???

I have a big aluminum radiator, 180* thermostat, new water pump etc. Had it idling maybe 20 minutes and drove it 10. Still cold lower hose. I can leave my hand on it for as long as I want.
