My lower IC pipe off of the turbo J-pipe keeps popping off the stock SMIC. It seems to happen after holding about 17 pounds of boost for awhile. I tried putting electrical tape around the intercooler outlet to thicken it up and am using a t-bolt clamp to tighten the silicone hose from the J-pipe to the intercooler. I then went ahead and wrapped another layer of electrical tape around the hose just for the hell of it. Anyone have similar problems and perhaps a solution? I know electrical tape isn't the strongest substance known to man so hopefully someone has figured out a better solution. I'm sure its a simple fix but I just can't think about it right now, and I'm tired of stopping on the side of the road to pop it back in! Thanks!

put a band of tape about 1/4 inch from end and build up a bead with JB weld. Take the tape off after the bead is hard.

Thanks for the help everyone. Looks like I've got a couple of options to think about. Always good to know what the next step to try is the next time I'm under the car cursing away at the side fo the road.

As stated, make some form of bead on the pipe end. You can also use hairspray to coat the pipe. It'll be a bi*** to get the coupler off but it'll be harder to pop off as well.

JB weld is some super strong epoxy. That oughta do the trick

Sure is! I wonder what it would do if it made it to the cumbustion chamber.

may be just me but it looks like your coupler is too big, that will not sit as well as a properly sized coupler.

The solution is simple- make sure the pipe is beaded, use the proper size coupler, use a clamp that can tighten down the whole way before bottoming out, and make sure the connection is clean and free of any oil.

Thanks again for the help everyone. Tons of useful tips. Part of the problem actually was from my own stupidity when putting the hose around the J-pipe I put it up a bit too far so there was no slack down at the intercooler end, simply lowering that helped the coupler slide further up the intercooler, but there was no way anyone on here could have guessed about that:ohdamn:. I did make sure that the stock end was beaded from the factory (it is), still went ahead and put up some JB weld (very small amount) and got a tighter fitting T-bolt clamp. Went ahead and made a couple of pulls and held 20 pounds of boost all day long, that sucker isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Still new to this site and real glad so many people can help so fast though.

:hmm:Best long term fix is just do a FMIC Kit. Pulling 20psi on a side mount isn't the best thing for it. It sucks so much power from you car with the small piping...

Usually keep it at 17.5psi, just ran 20 to make sure the pipe wouldn't blow off again. But believe me the FMIC is the very next step when the money falls into place... unfortunately as it stands that probably isn't until next summer so the stock SMIC has to hold up for the rest of this summer!

Ya, I understand that. I got a special deal with VR-Speed Factory short rout FMIC for $300.00 on here. (To bad that we need money for everything. LOL)
