Ok so I have a 90 Eclipse GST. I pretty much just got it legal and back on the road. Yesterday I was backing out of a parking spot and the car almost stalled, all of the dummy lights came on but once I put the car in drive and gave it gas to move forward it was fine.
Then I was driving and the oil pressure seemed low at idle and just cruising. I know the gauge on these car always looks kinda low but it was lower than usual. My oil light would also turn on and right back off every once in awhile. Its worse when I was slowing down and downshifting, when I pushed the clutch in is when the light seemed to turn on.
The car is stock besides a 3" intake and K&N filter. I checked the oil this morning and it was fine, I figured it would be since I changed the oil around 500 miles ago. Any suggestions on what the problem could be and how I could fix it?

sounds like your oil pump might be giving you problems, is the engine worn?

I dont know much history about the car because I haven't had it long but it is high mileage...over 200k. Even with the high mileage the motor looks clean and pulls hard. The car runs great besides this oil light.

I've been replacing a bunch of parts on the car since I dont know a lot of history on it. I've replaced rotors, calipers, brake hoses, tie rod ends, clutch master and slave cylinders, and air filter so far. As well as changing all fluids when I got the car. I'm also replacing the timing belt once I have the money to get the water pump.

my 95 gsx has recently started to do the same thing and that was the first thing I was going to look at is my oil pump. . . but ive also got 145k on my car and the kid who owned it before me ran 20w-50

Check if the oil light is even plugged in and a lot of times the oil light coming on doesn't mean anything. But your motor has about 200k miles on it? It might be shot. This happened to someone i know and the motor was shot i guess due to the low oil pressure. Also is the car losing any oil?

are you having any issues with the transmission? Is it hard to go into any gears and any given time? Also do you hear any knocking from the motor? If you have any of these issues in addition to low oil pressure you might have a rod or a crank bearing spinning. It just happened to me about 3 weeks ago.

you should probally check your oil sending unit on the pump and the wires that connect to it ,there are two sending unit ,one is for the light and the other one is for the gauge .

Did you check your oil? You might have developed a massive oil leak. Check your oil and look underneath for leaks. A leak of that magnitude would leave oil everywhere. If your full of oil and theres none leaking you might have a problem with the oil pump. Also check to see if the filter has backed it self loose, that would cause a huge oil leak pretty quickly too, and is relatively common with dsm's

The tranny has no problems. It did when I first got the car but that was because it had a bad slave cylinder. I'll check out everything you guys suggested tomorrow if I get a chance. Just took the car out a little while ago though and the oil pressure was fine. When I first started driving it even seemed kinda high...on the first mark on the gauge. Once I was driving for a few minutes though it was normal and the car ran fine.
