hey guys. just got my 93' talon today and drove it around quite a bit. put on 150 km in a couple hours haha. but heres the thing. the oil pressure gause is reading low. i have checked the oil and it is good. and looks brand new. no dash lights come on. but the gauge almost goes to nothing at idle. and while driving it goes to the bottom of the norm line. any ideas? car only has 84 000 km on it. sounds great and runs great.

A simple search would have shown the stock gauges do this, constantly, and they suck.
Sometimes cleaning the connector on the sensor can help.
The real solution is to buy a real oil pressure gauge.

Agreed with Absit. I have an oil leak and constantly have to use brakleen to get the oil out of the connector so my oil gauge reads right. Also, if the connector isn't tight anymore after the years of vibration and pressure, You can remove the clip and see if you can wedge the connector back into the correct postion to re-apply pressure onto the oil sender's connector.

I'm glad I found this... I bought a 1993 talon on Thursday. It runs awsome, and the oil pressure is great when driving. However, at a light or at idle the oil psi guage slowly drops until the low oil light flickers on the dash. I was hopping it was just low resistance from a bad sensor, but this is my first dsm and I am unfimilar with the car. I am now going to disconnect the sensor and see if I can clean the contacts before buying a new one. THANKS!

I've actually had issues with my oil gauge on my 2g...at idle it reads extremely low but when i'm driving it's fine. I know the oil pressure is just fine and most likely yours is too. As some other people already said our stock oil pressure gauges are just lousy. I wouldn't be too concerned.

This is one thing we can't take for granted. It's probably the sending unit BUT being wrong is awfully expensive. Beg, borrow, steal a real pressure guage just to make sure.

Would hate for you to blow an engine.

x2..

Just because a few members on tuners say they had same problem as you, doesn't mean IT IS THE PROBLEM..

Take this information to heart, and go and get a oil pressure gauge and check yourself. But like most members on here, they just wanna hear that they're fine even if they know deep down there not fine..

Good luck.
