After reading every post containing "oil pressure" ive decided to make my own post. I hope someone here can help.

Problem:
After the engine warms up (i.e. short drive or idling for a while) the oil pressure is below 5psi as read by my dummy light and mechanical oil pressure gauge when at/below 1k rpm. However, as the rpms go up the oil pressure is too high. For example 2k=25psi 3k=40psi 4k=60psi etc... So you could say i have a combination of high and low oil pressure really. I know the high pressure is due to the fact that i have no balane shafts and no oil squirters. I plan to port the oil housing as soon as i resolve this low pressure issue. I am running a 2.4l 2g block with a 1g head. I believe all my mods are accurately listed in my profile. I dont want to run a thicker oil than a 10w-30. It would seem a band aid to an underlying problem. The engine has only about 4k miles on it.
Please shoot me some ideas.
Thanks,

I certainly dont balme slowboy for my pump issues, but i do expect them to help get me new one from topline as they are the vendor that sold me the product. Ild imagine buying a topline product is like anything else aftermarket. You save money garanteed and wheather you get a good reliable product is hit or miss.

I am droping the oil pan here in a few minutes. I will post again after I check it out. Oh... on the plus side tho. I didnt see any shavings in the old oil when i tryed the 50weight so ate-up bearing shouldnt be the cause. Aslo i forgot mention i will be checking to see if my BSE kit blockof bearings have shifted or fallen out.

Well. Bad news guys. Found metal flakes in the bottom of the oil pan and metal specs in the oil filter housing. The sump tube was in place as it should be. Im going to guess the shavings are due to the low/no oil pressure at idle. I will post pics here shortly.:s

I'm a newb to DSMs as far as totally taking the whole thing apart (trans, ECU, long&short block,etc...) but not to our cars in general and not to other engines at all. Do our engines have an oil pressure relief valve? If someone came at me with an air cooledVW that presented your oil pressure symptoms, I'd pull the pressure relief valve and check that it was installed correctly, with the right spring, no binding in the piston/ball check-valve. This sounds like a classic case of that, but I honestly don't know if the ol' 4g63 sports an oil pressure relief valve! Maybe this helps?

I changed the oil to the 50 weight before i installed the turbo. There were no flakes in the 10w30 i drained and the 20w50 is still new looking with no metal. The k&n oil filter seems to have caught most of the metal. There wasnt much. Pics in a few minutes.

I guess im pulling the motor. Cant run it with metal eating my bearings. Ill check the magnety-ness here shortly. Ill take some pics when i have it out this afternoon.

Did your machinist use wiesco's piston clearances or factory spec? They're different due to the forged/cast differences.
