After nearly 300 miles on my freshly built 100% gone through motor I am experiencing yet another bug. The ONLY time it makes the tick is when the clutch is pressed in, the noise also does not change depending on how far I press the clutch. Finding the source of the issue I jacked up the car and had someone press the clutch while I'm under it. The noise sounded distinctly near the oil pump or harmonic balancer. Note ticking does not sound like its coming from the trans and new clutch. I also changed my break-in-oil to the oil I'm running to find no shavings at all with the ticking occurring for 4 days before the oil change. What I first checked was the clutch hydraulic system, not leaking on slave or master cylinder. I drained the fluid as it looked black and re-bled the system and adjusted the clutch. However with adjusting the clutch I understand how to find the spot before the bleeder in the master cylinder then back it out to be able to push in the slave. When I do this the pedal has no feel, it hits the floor. When I adjust the master cylinder to where I can shift I cannot push in the slave. This results in good clutch feel and NO issues shifting. I did not think this could be a drivetrain issue but I took off my timing cover thinking somehow I got lucky and had slack in my timing belt and the tensioner was tapping the adjuster. To find a perfectly timed front of my motor. The only thing I have not checked are my trans to block mounts but I am confident they are good. I am posting here because I'm at a loss to what my issue could be, it only happens with the clutch engaging. Don't want to say this but I know my thrust is set properly on my crank. I don't think the crank has moved because I found no shavings in the filter. This is what I have done, and I'm stuck so a direction is needed. Thanks

Did you check that the crank pulley (harmonic) is tight. I had mine come loose before and it made a similar tapping noise. Other things that can make noise on that side could be the water pump, is that tight and or new?

Guess what? now my car is tapping from that area... if I slightly rev the car the tapping stops. If I rev it a lot it sounds like a rattle. I took off my oil pan and everything looks normal. what is the common way to check for a spun bearing? I don't want to take apart the bottom of the rod if I don't have to.

For some reason I think the tapping has to do with the clutch because when I press in the clutch the tapping noise almost goes away completely. it goes from a rhythmic tap to a sporadic tap.

Very ironic, I just pulled the pan off my car today after having an issue with pressing in the clutch. Doing so resulted in the car dying. Dropped the pan and main girdle to find I spun my thrust bearing. I drove 600 miles after I posted this thread about the loud tick, I believe that incorrect clutch adjustment was putting too much pressure on the crank.

The only way to check for a spun bearing would be to take off the girdle, however you would know from finding shavings in the oil. My bearings are all toast dude to shavings, some where so big they got stuck in the oil pickup screen.

When troubleshooting my issue I ran the car while it was secured in the air and had someone press the clutch while I looked through the inspection window/clutch fork hole. You could be able to see if the bearing is shot.

Damn man that really sucks. So are you going to rebuild it? I found out so far that my flywheel was loose and so was my shifter bracket. The flywheel I torqued with Loctite so im unsure about that. The clutch got glazed from a tiny bit of grease getting on it. I almost have it all cleaned up and back together for my one millionth attempt. LOL
