wow i have no clue whats wrong....my rear pass. side wheel is being annoyingly loud..
it was doing it ever since i got my car and i JUST got a brand new set of rubber and checked the stock rims and were fine. it sounds like a industrialized machine spinning.. it gradually gets louder as i climb speed...
my buddy is stating that its either the e-brake assembly since i never use it due to a snapped cable. and another is saying that its the wheel hub bearing..

help me out PLEASE!

is it risky to be driving the car at all?
because it definately sounds dangerous..

if the bearing is really torn inside then you could have some mecanical failures if you drove her hard. Drive her slow around 20-30mph and do a hard left and a hard right turn the noise should get lauder then fade away.... unless though, now that i thought about it, if both your rear are bad then either way you will hear a laud noise even when you turn.

does the noise sound kinda like a rubbing sound?

not at all. sounds like a house A/C system if your at about 50mph. you know what i mean?
like a big machine running. ill try to do a hard turn first thing when i get my clutch line fixed. since it died yesterday :notgood:

uhm, i never driven my home at 50mph with the a/c on haha j/k

well if your car is on jackstands you could try a few tests there. Put the car in jack stands on all four corners and put it on neutral, wobble the tire left to right, it shouldn't even move a bit. Or spin it, you shouldn't hear no laud noises while its spinning freely

If you never use the ebrake the Shop you had put on your new tires could of used it.

If they used it when you dont it could have frozen the Ebrake pads onto the drum. If this is the case make them fix it. New rotors and all. Their fault, Their Bill.

yes. it is a loud humming/vibrating noise..i decided to just get the whole axle replaced.

^^^ yes axels have nothing to do with the wheel bearings.

indy1g- it is not their fault for using the e-brake, it was used for a safety precaution to them.

At every shop ive worked at, And even in tech college i was taught NOT to use the ebrake because of that reason. Most people dont use them, and if you dont use it and just pull it.. There is a good chance it will freeze up. Ive always been taught to leave it in gear.

Sounds like a wheel bearing, had the same thing w/my moms suburban and my corolla, changed wheel bearings, noise gone, vibration gone. Its not that hard a job anyways....

It's not hard unless you live in an area that salts the roads in the winter, like NY. Just hope your hub isn't rusted to the axle.

I've replaced both a front and a rear one on my car. The front came off fine, but I couldn't budge the rear with a 15 ton press.

I'm throwing my hat (and my vote) in on the bearing solution.

me too to this. I would def. have it towed and then looked at by someone you know is good. That might not be what you wanted to hear but because I slacked a little on a bad ball joint, the three hundred dollar job turned to a 1500 job. YIKES!!!

thanks for all the replys!! :thumb:

im placing an order on Rockauto.com to get my wheel hub bearing right now

im not even going to try swapping it out ### i know for fact that half of my car is rust haha.

NY state loves to eat up cars
ill let you guys know how it turns out

How did it go? I'm have the same problem, I think. I live in Pittsburgh and I have tons of rust on the underbody. My car makes a loud vibration when I drive...no different when I turn the wheel though. I have a feeling its a bearing. A mechanic took a quick look (he's not used to working on foreign cars) said that it could cost $2,000 for it to be fixed! I'm probably going to take it to the dealership, but I just wanted to hear how your situation went.

Thanks,

Mike
