Hey guys, after I installed my fp intake I noticed a random hose resting on my tranny and so I tried looking for a spot to put it but found none so what I did was just tuck it in front of the battery. After I drove for a while I noticed a clicking/tapping noise coming from the engine bay and I traced it down to this random hose. What is this?

Weird knocking noise coming from hose. - YouTube

If im not mistaken its a vaccume line.. my 98 gst has it.. it should be hooked up to the air aintake housing... again if im not mistaken..

RedGST98 was correct, that hose runs from your purge valve (which runs to the charcoal canister) to the intake.

Now its time to figure out where in the hell that knocking sound is coming from. I wouldn't sweat about it yet but I wouldn't ignore it either, your best bet is to pull your emissions hardware and see if the sound disappears or moves to a different spot in the engine bay.

That noise is just being made by the valve on the vacuum canister. I would just remove the vacuum supply to the canister than it will be non existant.

+1 for Red :)

I just plugged it with a screw and tucked it down somewhere and viola! However I do notice the car is running a but more quicker..unless its in my head LOL. And I have no emission objects. No cat, or any of the other emission related sensors beside the o2's. When I went for inspection the guy said I have 4 incomplete things I don't remember exactly which ones.

So normally this would plug into the intake?

Normally yes... I had the same issue but it was maken the car want to stall on me...

the 4 things are common.. i cant remember off the top of my head but they are sensors taht will read not ready.... There is a post on here talking about it.. Its a known issue to cause problems with our cars and emitions...

i would expect it to feel faster, with that hose just hanging off, it was sucking in air that was not being metered by your mass air sensor.
yes in stock form it would route back into the intake, to reburn crankcase gases. the vast majority of aftermarket intakes do not have an inlet for this, and assume you have already deleted your emission systems. your best solution is to remove the canister, and run a vented catch can inbeteeen the 2 ports on the valve cover that the canister and valve used to connect to.

ah thats nice, so I could take that hose and put it in side the catch can? I do have a small filter on the pcv nipple coming out of the vc. Is this causing damage? And what will happen if I just leave it the way it is, with the screw in there completely blocking it off? Sorry for so many questions Im clueless on pcv systems LOL.

You will get mixed opinions on that answer... some will say taht the emmisions is there on your car for a reason you need to leave it and other will say you can take it off..

Best I can say is its your car.. theres many running a catch can due to the fact that it does catch alot of oil from the valve cover and intake that most people run from.. It still helps vent and rerc. the gases jsut removing the oil that blows by..

leaven the hose your talking about blocked.. im not sure.. I dont think it would hurt but I dont know.. I have a nipple in my coupler so its still hooked up on mine..

But half that crap is off already LOL. I just want to know if blocking that hose will cause any damage. Thanks for your help bro!

The only damage I could see coming from that is from the build up of gases in the canister... Remove that part of the emmisions all together if thats teh rough you want to take or even drill a small hole or something so it can vent out.. the hose you closed is the vent so the gases are still going to the tank from the other end..

just my suggestion

Would it be that hard for the op to just follow the hose to were it's going to and figure it out. It's not rocket science.

He knows where it goes.. he has a new intake that does not have the nipple for the hose...

What he could do.. is pull out the intake.. buy a nipple.. drill and tap it and thread in the the nipple and plug in the hose.. Just thought about that..

Ok guys well I have right at 240 miles on my engine and noticed a small knocking sound before i did my OFH port for the 3rd time. I just reinstalled it and turn my car on for the first time yesterday and I swear it sounded just like this. I also have the FP intake and my same hose is just chilling like that one. My question is was your car quiet for a while than start making noise like that? I put 240miles and out of nowhere just sitting a week I do my OFH and hear the exact same noise. I just want to verify your experience. I already checked my valve train up top but I hope and pray we got the same problem because next is timing and worst cae drop the oil pan, but I swear my hose is hanging and my knock is definetly coming from the rear of the enine just like that.

Hey man, actually recently I haven't heard this noise in a while. It does come and go randomly but Ive only noticed it about 10% of the time I drive.

To my knowledge I havent had any ILL effects LOL :thumb:
