Loud intermittent nocking sound and NO power. please help!

Okay guys, I was driving my DD gst yesterday when I rolled up on an audi tt that wanted to give me a run. So, I decided what the heck why not... Well, after I was about 6 cars in front of him I felt the car jerk and cut power... and I limped off the side of the road as he wizzed by. (I still won LoL)

My car has no power. It will not create boost. It boggs itself down. It has a loud intermittent knocking sound which I will include a video to hear. I pulled off all the intake piping and checked the turbo. It has shaft play but not side to side... It spins freely. It is weird ### the car nock comes and goes and comes I believe mostly from the driver side, but is really loud when it does. If you watch the video... the last 3 second after i stand up I started to rev the car... If you can hear the change of tone then also? I will try to get a better video if necessary, but my batteries died and I don't wanna walk to the store.

It pains me deep to my core to hear my car sounding like this. Too bad I am only in the middle of my gsx hx35 auto-x build or I would just throw it together and drive it... damn it..

You have a rod knocking. Time to pull the motor and do a rebuild.
 
Just want to give an update on info in case it helps. Pistons look to be in good condition, yet look dirty and a bit oily... this was checked thru the spark plug hole. Spark plugs are gross and dirty also. turned the crank and the timing marks line up perfect. Gonna do a compression check as soon as the tester gets here later today. All belts seem to be properly tensioned including timing belt. It just had a fresh oil change last week. Can't think of much else that may help.

But, if anybody could shed some light. Please do any help is GREATLY appreciated!! Thank you.
 
even though the sound is not all the time random/intermittent , and it gets louder and quieter it would still be rod knock? bummer...

how can i double verify that it is in fact rod knock?
can i check by taking off the oil pan? or by doing a compression check?
just want verify it before i tear it down completely.

sounds good:thumb: thanks man. i will get on doing that tonight. just didn't wanna swap it 4 my gsx's motor right away if i don't have to. i am gonna build one motor doesn't matter which, but i would rather put an old tired engine in my gst instead of a fresh one. save the money for my gsx. i don't mind the labor. i am used to it.:D

i just checked the oil... not the oil pan. and i see absolutely no metal shavings... pure clean oil.? still too busy to do a compression test or drop the oil pan.

if it doesn't sound like a spun rod bearing.. then what does it sound like?
 
i would lean towards rod bearing to. an easy way to check is with the motor running and it making that noise you can remove one wire at a time (put the wire you removed back before removing the next) and if the sound goes away(generally it does with a rod bearing) then that usually will tell you which rod has the spun bearing
 
Sounds like a balance shaft to me. But if thats the case your bearing are shot as well due to no oil pressure!! Thats waht my 1.8 talon sounded like when I spun a balance shaft bearing from over reving. I was soo pissed I ran it unitill it blew up. LOL
 
FYI... problem was my crank damper was in two pieces. causing shit to rub on the timing belt cover and go thru and all kinds of fun stuff. literally went to pull the damper and it fell apart in my hand..i was able to jerk it and spin it while still installed on the car.. something you want to check on if you get squeeling "belts" or anything like that...
