i bought my car the other week and i have searched up and down this forum and havent found a post that applies to my issue. When im driving i hear no issues everything runs fine, but as soon as i brake my passenger side rear makes this loud banging it sounds like a hammer pounding on the fender i checked the brake and its fine and everything is bolted down with no play i have no idea what is causing it. by the way its a 1995 fwd talon 420a 200,xxx miles

Lift that wheel and have someone else push on the brake pedal. Then yank and twist on the wheel. Odds are, the caliper is loose and now you'll see it move.

I just noticed that you have a N/T 95. I can't remember if those are disk or drum in the rear. Obviously, if it's the latter, you'll have to open it up, instead.

My old 96 gsx the bolts for the caliper brackets worked their way free and caused a thump or clunk. I torqued them all down but still worked their way free so check those.

If they're drum brakes and have recently been serviced, you could of possibly run into someone not doing a finish cut on the drums. Basically this would make threads on the drums that would pull the shoes away until they can't go any further and slap down against the backing plate. When you pull the drums off, check for any grooves. You shouldn't be able to catch anything with your fingernail. I've run into this a couple of times, even on new drums that never had a finish cut done at where they were made.

Your rear disk brakes have an integrated drum brake for the parking brake though. Have you actually removed your wheel, and pulled the brake pads to see the condition of the inner and outer disk brake pads? Have you checked all your control arm bushings for the rear suspension? Have you confirmed that the wheels are balanced and your rear struts are not blown? Have you confirmed your brake lines are all fixed in place and not hitting on the inside of a wheel? Have you tried to slow the car using the e-brake instead of your brake pedal to see if it is specifically an issue with the disk brakes? You could have unevenly worn pads or a warped rotor; both of which would be easy to identify by wear patterns under inspection.

This seems like a simple fix based on the fact that you need to jack your car up, remove your wheel and actually inspect what is going on.

Had the same problem after I took mine to get new tired, when they put the tire on they didn't properly tighten the lug nuts. U said everything was bolted properly so I assume that wouldn't be the issue. Like others said I would take the wheel off and feel around to see if anything is noticeably messed up
