Oshawa,
Well, I bought this car, and it's my first standard. So I bought this 94 TSi, and while I Was driving around, I stalled it quite a bit, and got the stupid shaking car syndrome, where it rocks back and forth hard when it's stalling out.

Anyways, after stalling it out, there was a lot load of smoke coming out the exhaust, and under the right fender where the SMIC is.

I'm thinking I may have shook loose a coupling or something. The guy who I bought the car from, he drove it to my house from an hour away, then back to his house, then back to my house. So a total of 2 hours driving and there was no smoke.

The intercooler hose, one of them, looks to be in rough shape.

Car information

New 4G63T under 20k on rebuild, rebuilt turbo. New Clutch

There isn't much smoke until I hit boost, then it smokes like crazy.

Other information:

After the last oil change, the car was sitting for a week, then drove to my house, the car is running the wrong oil, has been running 20w50 for a long time. They put in 5w30

The gas station he was at didn't have premium, so he had to put in 86 Octane fuel.

Just wondering what you all think?

Seems to be an oil leak around where the hose connects to the intercooler. Almost looks like oil is leaking through it.

It looks like you have a cracked stock intercooler hose. You can buy replacement hosing through any of our vendors here or just look through a junkyard / DSM member for a replacement. As far as the smoke goes, does it happen all of the time? what color is it? is it just at idle? open throttle? normal driving? off boost? on boost?

Running 86 definitely is not a good thing for a turbo car, try running through that tank or putting more 93 in it and see if that remedies your problem. Methinks that your car really just needs a little TLC.

It's still running the crappy oil. He had 20w50, then when he was leaving he got it changed, but the people put in 5w30, so it still has 5w30 in it. He drove it for maybe, 3 hours total when he got back (first time the car was driven since the oil change).

I'm thinking maybe when I got it, the 20w50 was still running through some of the engine, but after stalling it / flooding it, that the 5w30 is leaking through the hoses. I don't know forsure.

I was gonna work on it in my garage tomorrow. But i think I'm just gonna bring it to the shop, have them switch the oil to 20w50, and have them clean it up.

I'll take a look at the prices for an intercooler hose. Also, the smoke seems to be blue when I'm boosting, and the smoke really starts coming when I boost, last night, when I got home from my cruise, I turned it on, let it warm up (not much smoke at all, regular amounts), then I rev'd it to about 4k, then POOF, TONS of smoke was coming out, and there was smoke coming out from the SMIC

Thanks for all the ideas, I'm hoping to get it all fixed tomorrow.

It seems to me that you have large amounts of oil going through your intake. It's a combination of that and loose connections that oil is seeping out of the connection between your IC hose and your sidemount. Loose connection will also contribute to boost leak. Boost leak will cause dark smoke from running rich, and oil will cause blue smoke.

I would start tackling it one thing at a time:

1. Don't boost until you've used up the crap gas. Only get premium from now on.
2. Crap gas and misfiring could have screwed up your plugs... replace with apropriate ones (I'm not sure what your application is since you only mentioned rebuild).
3. Figure out where the oil is coming from (Valve cover and turbo are prime suspects).
4. Fix your boost leaks - if you're still running stock sidemount you can consider upgrading to hard pipes or even intercooler upgrade. Do the boost leak test properly!
5. Report findings :)

The oil drip is coming from that hose that I took a picture of. That's the only place oil is leaking from.

Well that hose carries air through it so the oil that is coming out of there got into that hose from somewhere else. Either the seal in the turbo is in bad shape or you are getting a large amount of oil through the hose that runs from your valve cover to you intake. If you don't already have a catch can on this hose you should get one.

I should be getting a new 14B tonight. So hopefully if I get it, I can install it tomorrow, if it is the turbo seals that is.

I'm trying to think of what I could have shook loose to cause this.

The car was just e-tested and safetied a couple days before I got the vehicle. If it was burning oil, it sure as hell wouldn't have passed.

ya, I might put in some octane booster for the rest of this tank. I'm not currently driving the vehicle. Except for when I drive it to the mechanic shop tomorrow

Also, could someone post a link to one of those intercooler pipes. I'm having a hard time finding it.

Do you think that the new thinner oil could be leaking through the turbo seals? And would swapping the turbo fix it? Do you think?

How else would oil get there? I'm guessing that oil is being sucked into the turbo, and being burnt off, which is where all the smoke is coming from. Is there a lot of spots that oil could get in there?

Shaft seals on the turbo are usually the problem. You should pull off the intake and have a look - check for shaft play. If it's anything less than rock solid, chances are it's a bad seal. Also have a look in your intake pipe to make sure you're not sucking oil in through your valve cover breather. At this point if the hose you took a picture of is looking like that, I'm betting your entire intake tract is looking pretty bad. Dejon Power makes a popular set of affordable intercooler piping. Look them on on the vendors list. Furthermore you can take out your sidemount and wash it out with some degreaser or gasoline. Just keep filling it and rinsing it through until it's all shiny on the inside.

Smoke color? The turbos are both oil and water cooled plus if the head gasket went south it will smoke too.
