so i fire up my car this morning to take my girlfriend to work and as i'm in 2nd barely accelerating i see me knock sensor FLY all the way up (i have Dsmlink set to read knock on my stock boost gauge) anyways, i'm at maybe 25% throttle and it goes all the way up! so i get in to 3rd gear and at about 2500 rpms still 25% throttle same thing! knock reads insane amounts!! i'm like OMG so i keep going, shift into 4th get to about 2500 rpms same thing. What The F? i've never seen it do this before? help me out guys.
 
I have same problem in my Talon 1G 94 TSi. One lifter is knocking, mayby this is the problem.
 
holy monkey! a reply!!! that could be the problem, i haven't experienced the problem i posted since i posted ( go figure :rolleyes: )
 
i've been getting 93 at that shamrock place (jee where would i get that idea??? :rolleyes: ) i checked BP and they want $2.18 for 93 octane!!!! :laugh:
 
is it full 93 or a mix of 93 and pee water? id run it down all the way and fill it with 93 and see what happens....u ever post your cas problem on the nabr forums?
 
i did run it down all the way and i just filled it back up with 93 again last night. haven't had a chance to post on the nabr forum yet.... i know, i know.....

I have the same issues. I have noticed it more in the mornings now that it is cooler when heading to work, or when the car has been sitting for a while. (oil cool) Additionally, I have been noticing an audible "tick" while idleing that is more predominent when the car is cool.

My assumption is as someone else has indicated - lifter tick. It seems that at that rpm, there is a resonance that causes the knock sensor to pick up the tick, and the ecu retards timing accordingly. (Very noticeably in my case.)

My first step towards the cure is going to be the MCCC treatment, and if that doesn't fix the problem, then I guess I will have to do the lifter swap.

Has anyone else had any luck with the MCCC treatment?

I don’t know anything about MCCC.
After reading on this forum about knocking, I figured out that I have 2G knock sensor in 1G car OMG - this is probably the problem. I’m using 102 octanes from shell .
Usually knock sum gets 43 and sometimes time advance is -4 = no acceleration :mad:.

How did you come to this conclusion? I have the same problem as you, but my car knocks ALL the time, and its not the lifters. I dont have any boost leaks, or anything like that, but it knocks like a madman at 10 psi! I did have to get a new knock sensor, maybe if the 2g knock sensor causes a problem this is what is wrong, could you point me in the right direction to find out if that is the problem before i spend 100 bucks on a new head gasket.
 
i wasnt even aware that there was a diiference between 1g and 2g knock sensor... :confused: maybe i'll have to borrow your old one Mr. Sperm.

i didnt know there was a difference either, but then again i know as much about 2g's as i do about women
 
I have changed my sensor after problems with acceleration. Sensor was probably damaged because there was a hole on the back. Now I think it was just problem with bad fuel.
I don’t have access to old sensor now, so when you try this please let me know.

My knocks are visible always from 2200 RPM, even with 20% of throttle.
dls93tsi, do you have knocks only on WOT or also on 25% of throttle like u6t9 and me ?
 
I get knock at 25% and WOT....WOT gets less knock than partial throttle though for some reason...any ideas?
 
doesn't europe have a different way of rating octane? i think there's like 3 ways to rate it.
 
I have now old knock sensor from Galant 2.0 1990. Knock sum is not so high like with 2G knock sensor. When accelerating I have 50% chance to get knocks. I think it is connected with lifter, witch is knocking time to time.
 
Your car make be knocking the same as it was before. The reason being is that a 2G knock sensor is far more sensative than a 1G knock sensor and will pick up a lot more. You should be able to calibrate the 2G knock sensor with the DSM Link. You will have to make sure your car isn't actually knocking at all and then calibrate out the noise that it picks up, then your car will actuall know when its actually knocking or just making noise.

Also if you suspect a bad knock sensor, you can unplug it. When unplugged your car will see 9 counts of knock no matter what. WOT, or just puting along.

So when i redid my head i saw my knock sensor...with an oily substance around it? i should be replacing it right? and where can i get it...napa and oreilys says its a dealer item...any internet sites or anything will help...im gonna replace it when i redo(yes redo for a 2nd time in 4 months my headgasket) along with my timing belt and waterpump.

I have a similar problem on my 1G. I see tons of knock between 2000-3000rpm, with the throttle around 20%. Above 3000rpm, the knock goes away, at 6000rpm WOT I have 0 knock. It seems that after driving for 30 minutes I get less knock. I'v tried to play with the AFC, no difference at all. Now I tried 99 octane fuel, it's the same. My clues are a noisy lifter or boost leak. My knock sensor was replaced a year ago.
