I changed to royal purple oil yesterday and noticed my motor was running quieter ..but also now my car won't boost like it used to!!! I was wondering if this was purely coincidental...Or if the synthetic oil might have caused me to loose some kind of seal exposing a boost leak!?? Anyone have something like this happen?? Now with my MBC on max I can't get past 16lbs!! Where as before I could hit 20 then leak down as my 1st gen BOV would cause me to lose boost !!!

Opinions??

Run a boost leak test. Does the car drive like normal just not boost? Or does it start sputtering black smoke and stuttering whenever you are about to get into boost?

i thought these cars take 5W30 that's what i run in mine it seems to run fine but i ran royal purple in mine and it ran better until it all leaked out of my oil drain line so i would think you have a boost leak somewhere double check all your couplers

It seems to be running better..No smoke..But some hesitation in OD as it has since I bought it last year...I thought it was my auto tranny acting funny since it doesn't do it in other gears... Will do leak down test Friday. My oil pressure is a little bit lower.Guess theat is becuase its synthetic?

I have always used royal purple in my cars, up until I got into turbos. I know of 3 cars local to me that have had motor and turbo problems after the switch to royal purple. All three of the owners are probly some of the most anal people I know when it comes to maintinence. All of them have had power loss after about a 1000 miles and checking the oil its black has hell and 2 of them ran to the 2500 mile mark and changed the oil and black sludge came out. The only thing I can think of is the royal purple doesnt hold up to lots of heat on highway pulls, and loses some of its viscosity (or whatever). This is the first time I have had a turbo charged vehicle, my blown small block chevy with 0 problems, not near the heat for the extended time. Everyone changed to other oils and problem is gone. If anyone has had good experience chime in because I dont want my reply to be one sided with only my bad experiences to hurt a reputable company.

I never heard of that happening before with royal purple, I always considered it an excellent oil. My friend with a 350z noticed that with Mobil 1, every oil change he was about a half a quart to a quart low. Switched to royal purple, and is doesnt lose a drop. .:idontknow:

If your oil is black as hell comming out thats good. If your oil comes out clean after running it for 2500 miles then i would be worried. Oil has more jobs than just lubricating, if it's black that means it's doing a good job cleaning. :thumb:

Seems I've found the source of the problem.. I have a boost leak at the intake manifold throttle body... I sprayed the area with soapy water and kept pumping up and it won't boost past 11 now before it leaks badly. Found smaller leaks at some hoses...fixed..bigger leaks at the injectors (time for bigger injectors??!!).. and a bad leak when I was wiggling the throttle ..So now I would need a new gasket or should I be looking to upgrade throttle body??

P.S. I don't think this is connected in any way to the oil change just worn out seal/gasket???

Thanks
