I just recieved my "remanufactured head" from "a shop" , I told them to port polish, the works. New valvetrain everything. I took it out of the box it was sent in and had a look. Everything looked kosher aside from the hot pink writing on the exhaust side of the head WTF , but whatever, thats not my problem. I continued to inspect the head and flipped it over to see the deck surface, shotty at best, but thats not my problem either
.
My problem is when i flipped it I could hear a chunk(s) of metal rolling around inside. So I took a closer look at the ports to see if I could find and shavings left behind from the machining process, nothing. Hmm? Shook it again, still there, but I narrowed it down to one side of the head and it's apporximate location. To make a long story short (too late right) I'm thinking it's in one of the coolant or oil galleys but I can't see it for the life of me. Another thought is that it might be under the gold Allen plugs in the middle of the head. I've heard they aren't supposed to be removed but I need to find the metal thats in there. If anyone has any suggestions as to how to remove this I would be greatful. I'm really pissed off and am running low on patience.
Is it normal for metal to be rolling around in the head
Thank you
Brew
p.s. I've tried using a pen magnet but unfortunatley aluminum isn't magnetic.
