Ok I am trying to get a understanding and what I am trying to figure out if a 1g ported head is better then a 2g head?

I know 1g stock is better then 2g stock and we all know that but when it comes to porting the heads I have heard that a ported 2g head will out flow a 1g ported head can anyone give me insight to this?

Thanks

im located in aus.. we have EVO 1,2,3 's here
they i believe are the same as 2G's

anyway, the head ports are much smaller than vr4's (1g)

The theory is that the 2G port is angled down towards the valve more and when ported will still out perform the 1G intake port because of the straighter angle into the head. People tend to believe that a bigger port is better ...but some times the better design wins out. DSMjim is going with a well prepared 2G head over the the ported 1G head ...and he knows his stuff.

Thats also what I heard about the better design !

But we all know stock VS stock 1st gen win's

But when it comes to porting it may same like a 2g head is a better choice!

but u also gotta look at stock 2g T-25 vs the 1g 14b

I doubt if someones at the point of porting there heads they wont be running there stock turbos. The 1g vs 2g head debate has been going for a while. I personally will probably go with a ported 2g head. If you call FFWD they said they wouldnt even touch a 2g head. But the way i see it your not really making a bad choice if you pick one or the other.

What does the head have to do with the t-25 or 14b?

This is about ported heads not turbo's

A 2g head can outflow a 1g, but the porting must be very extreme. The entire port is basically re-worked and the roof cut at an angle. To tell you the truth there are only about a handful of guys out there that can actually benefit from the amount of porting it takes to make a 2g head flow more than a 1g.

I would stick to the 1g personally.

It's about efficency. The 2g head equiped with a turbo that flows alot less air produces more power than a 1g head equiped with a bigger turbo. The 2gs i belive are also rated for better gas mileage than the 1gs. In addition, out of all of the fastest stock cars i've seen, the 2gs seem to have come on top. Bigger ports does not always mean better.

Someone should grabbed a rebuilt 1g and a rebuilt 2g head and test them both, using the same amount of boost and everything. Just to see which one comes out top. I myself would choose the 2g head.

Thats not really a good way to compare them. We are talking about 15 crank hp here. That could easily be picked up through the compression differences alone.

Like you said the only way to tell would be to have each head bench tested at the same time under the same conditions. But it seems like that has been done already?

Basing seat of the pants efficiency guessimates on turbos or stock car performance is, simply put, retarded. Truth is that no one posting in this thread will outflow a 2G head....stock. The dirty truth is just do whatever is most affordable to you.

^^^ I like this guys style! Me myself, i will be going with a nicely ported 2g head. I'm doing it cause i like the flow characteristics of the coolant. Thats why i would rather have a 2G.

No one here is worried about "outflowing a 2G head." Why would you even bring that up? People don't spend tons of money or time on P&P work because they've reached the limit. Even a stock car can beifit from P&P work. It's been proven over and over again that P&P work, even just cleaning up the casting pits and marks, improves air flow and in turn makes power.
