I'm looking to swap a 96 gst motor from a donor car into my 95 talon tsi. I removed the 6 bolt that was swapped in it but I basically just removed everything that was in my way and lifted it out fairly bare. I'm looking to keep this gst motor as together as possible since its running and in perfect working condition. I'm fairly new at swaps and this would be my first pull and place. Any advice or links would be a huge help. Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty on the fence about doing the swap being that the gst is making good power now with a tune at around 360 whp but I don't know that I want to stick with fwd even with its lsd. I know awd is better all around and really like my talon but I don't want to get in over my head/ wallet:banghead:

I'm confused, is your car AWD? and the donor is GST so fwd?

And what was wrong with your engine?

And buy a factory service manual if you can afford it. OR at least get a Haynes/Chilton.

I just replaced the bottom end of my Engine and literally tore the motor and put in new rings and bearings, and put it all back together with only my Haynes Manual.

If you're ever unsure about how to do something do a search on here or look at vfaq.com

I would honestly not touch the 7 bolt personally , sell the donor car and rebuild the 6 bolt. Avoid crankwalk and you will be happy.

Hey your in grants pass, oregon..

I bought a 6 bolt bottom end from Evil94Evo, he lives in Vancouvar, Wa. It was in in almost perfect condition for $350. He had a ton of 6 bolt engines, and parts. Send him a pm on here!

John I'm just specifying here...

So you have 2 cars. One being a 95' AWD Talon with blown 6 bolt engine and a 96' Eclipse GS-T which currently makes 360whp. Now you want to take that 96' engine and drop it in the Talon, correct?

Is the 96 engine all stock? I know stock can make pretty big power but if your going to the trouble of a swap I'd say to beef things up a bit because it sounds like you may get power hungry if you do go AWD. You can PM me with any questions

Based off the real numbers of crank walk I don't think it's THAT big of a deal or likely at all.

I'd build it regardless. But I'd at least do 1g rods and keep the stock pistons for the higher compression.

Yes you have it right. I have had the Tsi and the motor blew so I bought this gst because it was a good deal and is in very nice condition. The gst is not stock and has a rebuilt 7 bolt in it with lots of extras. I know about the car bought it from a friend and have turned wrenches on it a couple times prior. The gst has a dogbox tranny and a quaife lsd in it as well.

I do have chiltons/haynes manuals like any good owner should have an I have checked on here and vfaq. I use the google search function a lot trust me.

What I'm on the fence about is wether its in my best interest to pull the gst motor and drop it in the talon. I do have some money to play around with to make it happen but I would like to keep things to a minimum being the gst is in driving condition right now. Just took it to work yesterday!

That's what I just pulled out of the talon. A built 6 bolt 2.3 stroker with my fpgreen on it. Had everything done but my internals fried due to oil loss on the freeway. I can't keep both cars soi I have to do something with one of them. The gst is in very condition and so is the talon. I feel bad about stripping either one of them honestly. I have link complete walbro setup 1050cc injectors afpr and all the go fast goodies.

Not a bad set up.

Pulling a running engine out of one car and dropping into another will cost you next to nothing. The question I would be asking is which shell is in better shape? If its the GST then I would consider awd swapping it instead.

Crankwalk is a myth. It can happen to anyone; I walked a 6bolt.

In your circumstance I would do the swap.
